South Brunswick High School junior Walker Jenkins has been named Gatorade North Carolina Baseball Player of the Year. The announcement, made before the state championship series, listed his statistics: batting average of .519, 10 home runs, 37 RBI, and 45 runs. According to PerfectGame.com, Jenkins is ranked the No. 2 player in the 2023 class. (State Port Pilot)

What are the chances he sets foot on campus?
How high will he be drafted and how much does his family value education? How much does he want to avoid those Rookie League and Single A bus rides and ultra cheap motels, month after month?

Major College Baseball is much more fun, and much less draining, than minor league baseball until you get to AA. And MCB does prepare people to play AA ball because it is roughly that good.

This kid is most likely going to get a signing bonus of well over $1 million. Unless he has a disappointing senior season and his draft stock drops a lot, I can't see him playing college baseball. Would love to see someone of his caliber at UNC, but we need to be looking for another center fielder in the class of '23.
