During the UNC Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, a $500,000 renovation project for the Kenan Football Center was approved and given the green light to move forward.

According to the board, the project is a renovation to the operational needs of the UNC Football program, including locker rooms, weight room, training room, equipment room, players’ lounge, study area, coaches’ offices and player meeting rooms.

The $500,000 budget was listed as being funded “from gifts raised by the Educational Foundation.”

Head coach Mack Brown has been a major advocate for new football facilities since he arrived for his second tenure in charge of the program back in 2018.

A $5 million locker room and weight room renovation was completed during the summer of 2019, while the spring of 2020 saw the first floor of the Kenan Football Center undergo a transformation as well.

In addition, Brown had the natural grass field at Kenan Stadium converted to synthetic turf for a small price tag of $2 million.

It’s also fitting that the Kenan Football Center was constructed at Brown’s wishes during his first tenure at UNC, and completed in 1997–his final year before taking the head coach position at Texas.

These new renovations continue his vision of making UNC a “cool place to be” for some of the nation’s top football recruits.
