NOTRE DAME, Ind. --- Notre Dame scored the game's final eight runs to beat No. 20 North Carolina 10-5 Saturday afternoon in the first game of an ACC doubleheader at Frank Eck Stadium. Ryan Bull's two-run homer tied it at 5 in the eighth before the Irish plated five runs in the eighth against the Tar Heel bullpen. Skye Bolt hit his seventh home run of the year and Alex Raburn had two hits to lead the Tar Heels, who will send J.B. Bukauskas to the mound in the nightcap.
Carolina (31-17, 13-11 ACC) took a 1-0 lead on Bolt's home run in the first before the Irish (31-18, 13-12 ACC) tied it in the third against Zac Gallen. Ryan Lidge's RBI single in the fifth put Notre Dame in front for the first time, but the Tar Heels responded with four runs in the sixth.
Brian Miller doubled home Landon Lassiter to even the score at 2 and Raburn's RBI single put UNC back in front. Notre Dame's Mac Hudgins then lost a fly ball in center that allowed Raburn to score, and Elijah Sutherland's run-scoring hit pushed the lead to 5-2.
But it would be all Irish from there, however, with Jake Shepski's solo homer in the sixth starting the hosts' rally. Bull tied it with his fourth longball of the year in the seventh against Trevor Kelley (5-2), and Notre Dame sent 10 men to the plate in the decisive eighth.
Scott Tully struck out Raburn with the bases loaded in the seventh and then fanned Bolt with two on in the eighth on his way to a relief victory. Tully allowed just two hits over 2.1 scoreless innings to improve to 4-4.
Notre Dame starter Scott Kerrigan allowed five runs on six hits over 6.1 innings, while Gallen surrendered three runs on five hits in 5.2 innings of work.
