My Dad was in Vietnam. His Uncle (my great Uncle) was at Iwo Jima. I have another Uncle who was in Korea, he got a Purple Heart.

My Dad's father joined the Army and the Navy, BEFORE the 2nd World War, to get the signing bonus, and then went AWOL in both. After Pearl Harbor, he had to sorta go on-the-lamb and move around a lot so as to not get caught. I guess you could say I had a leg-up, genetically speaking!

We do not recognize veterans on memorial day. That is for veterans day. We recognize those who died in combat. Please don't confuse the two. It is great disservice for those that paid the ultimate price.

My father, Lt. Col. C.A. Lindell USMC (RIP) did some fighting from the air in A4 & A6 fighter jets during operations in Viet Nam.

Sorry... it's the liberal socialistic agenda in me, I guess. I should have asked for the proper protocol from you.

You just KNOW all those Veteran's who have since gone on to the next place our souls go is somewhere shaking their heads and rolling their eyes at how incredibly confrontational, belligerent and aggressive we have become as a society now. The pettiness amazes me daily.

Yes, It is MEMORIAL day Louigi, but you know what, I will give due respect to those I love that have passed in and out of wars/combat, the ones I know who physically came back but the peaceful part of them never came back because of the horrors they witnessed and the ones who continue to go and fight these battles that I sometimes question. I love our troops and respect them but I'd give everything I have if it would keep them HERE protecting us instead of sending another one over to a foreign land to die..... I better stop...this upsets me too much! I don't want to say something some RW nut will take completely wrong, as they usually do.

Don't let it happen again...
Per Louigi's request:

If anyone replies, and the veterans in their family didn't die in combat, you're disqualified. But, I like it when I get to read about peoples' veteran's stories... even on Memorial Day. So, the more disqualifications, the better.

Lou, lighten-the-fvck-up! I notice the TV channels are loaded with war movies. Is that relegated for Veteran's Day only? Can they show them on Memorial Day and NOT Veteran's Day? What if they show them on days that are not Memorial OR Veteran's Day? Is that a disservice, too? What if I commemorate people killed in combat EVERY DAY. Is that improper?

Well I wasn't going to say anything because your intentions were good. And it's always ok to say "We appreciate you" to a veteran, whether it's Veteran's Day or not.

Yeah... I like hearing about peoples' experiences in combat especially. Good and bad.

We'll considering I did have immediate family members killed in combat and am named after one that was a fighter pilot in WWII that was killed by the Japanese after parachuting out of his plane and his body never found, I don't take memorial day lightly. Excuse me for not lightening up.

You told us many times that you do not watch TV, so how the FVCK do you know whats on? Even so, TV is our guide lamp? Get real.

Don't use petty excuses to steal the observance of those who died for us.

My younger brother fought in Iraq, and have ancestors that fought in every war since the Revolution but his and their day is Veterans Day. I thank my brother continually, but we both step back and give all honor to the combat dead today.

All the back and forth aside, my first cousin, Marine PFC William Revell III from Florence, SC paid the ultimate price for his country in 1969 when he stepped on a land mine in Vietnam.

I have this thing called the "Guide" button on the remote. I can scroll-through and see what is ON. That doesn't mean I have to watch it, to know that it's on.

I watch movie channels. I DVR the History Channel for Pawn Stars, Logo for SNL reruns. During football and basketball seasons, I watch commercial TV. I think commercial TV is part of the liberal socialistic agenda trying to break our will.

My Grandfather's oldest brother, Louis Stoneburner, was an army doctor in WWII and was shot down in a Red Cross plane over Northern Africa and his remains were never recovered.

My next door neighbor at VMI, Paul Syverson, was in Special Forces. He was KIA in Iraq in 2004.

It is impossible to overstate their sacrifices.

I honestly can't believe that people would argue on a thread like this. Shame on you.

As a Nam Era Vet I can tell you he is SPOT-ON!

Memorial Day is for those who gave all. Remember their families.
