the Ohio State Sex Scandal?

For starters, it is Ohio State. Especially compared to the SEC and SWC, the Big Ten has always been teflon. At one point the NCAA rented office space from the Big Ten, and the relationship between the two has seemed to reflect that most of the time. The NCAA seems to have always acted as if the Big Ten were above suspicion, much less reproach.

Ohio St is the most important Big Ten member, and has been since at least Paul Brown arrived in Columbus. If the league is teflon as much as possible, then Ohio St certainly must get special dispensation. And it has. With all that has gone on at Ohio St in both revenue sports, over decades, if OSU were in the SEC, it might have gotten a pair of Death Penalties by now.

And then there is the fact that it always has been acceptable to expose and punish male sexual abuse of young women, but male sexual abuse of young men not so long ago seemed to be too horrifyingly shameful to want to acknowledge even when it was "an open secret" as this case was. And today it runs smack into some PC standards and biases.

A sobering quote: "It also worked to Strauss’s advantage that he operated in a college environment. For all the seminars and orientation programs, campuses remain hotbeds for assaults. According the Department of Justice data, male college-aged students (18-24) are 78% more likely than non-students of the same age to be a survivor of rape or sexual assault."

Cuz 2020 sucks for sports and we need a reprieve from anything other than hassle-free sportsing.
