his brother is a teacher here in Burlington. Turned himself in today for relationship with a female student. I know the girl and her family. Wooten's brother has a wife and 2 young kids.

What the hell is wrong with people?

Porn, dude. It all starts with porn. Not saying everyone who has porn in their life turns into a pedophile, but statistically almost 100% of pedophile's started out with basic porn. Same for serial killers and rapists. It's just too easy.

On the one hand, I agree with your premise that the internet has made deviant behavior seem normal, especially to those predisposed to deviant behavior. On the other hand, let he among us who hasn't been looking at porn since well before AlGore invented the interwebs cast the first stone.

And this shit has been going on forever. Hell, the Police wrote a song about it in 1980. I remember back in my high school it was common knowledge that a couple of the teachers were nailing a few of the students. I'm not excusing it, but internet porn hasn't caused it. In fact, I would say that cell phone cameras and text messages have actually gone a long way in exposing the behavior.

What school? WHS?

Yep. My 16 year old came home from skool and told us all about it. You don't know the family- they moved to Burlington about 10-15 years ago. It's on the TimesNews website- lead story.

Just sayin, it's WAAAAY too easy now .. that was my only point. Yes it's been going on forever but none of us could look at hardcore porn while standing in line at the bank until the late 90's.

No one gets to the point of rape or sexual molestation without having porn in their life. Stuff like this is getting more and more common and it will only get worse.

Really? You think the Isis guys watch a lot of porn? They are probably the most prolific of the abusers and I doubt one of those camel jockeys could turn a computer on.

And 99% of all men in the US watch porn.

Seriously, you DON'T think terrorists have access to and are drawn to porn?? You must be kidding.

I'm actually shocked anyone would defend porn usage. I can't comment on whether 99% of men watch porn. I know I do not. I've seen it of course, what guy hasn't... then I saw it tear up my parents marriage .. and two other families close to us ... I finally wised up and got rid of that garbage. I've seen too much firsthand damage to act like it's nothing.

No, I dont think the average ISIS rapist has access to porn other than the way we did in the 80s.

I am neither advocating nor defending porn, just like I neither advocate nor defend any other lifestyle choice. I juat dont think internet porn is to blame for teachers naving sex with students as this behavior has been going on long before the internet.

Porn is the culprit? AYFKM????

That's like saying pot makes people get strung out on heroin.

Hey, bleed, does gambling turn you into a hell-bound heathen? No. Does the access to gambling EVERYWHERE make you addicted to it? No.

A society that attaches shame and guilt to human sexuality is asking for trouble. A society that sells sex on TV, in commercials, boner pills, and American Idol, etc. ... and, THEN, tries to forbid, shame, impose guilt, on people from engaging in a consensual, completely natural thing that feels incredible creates a huge conflict. Orgasms are just... they're just great! There's nothing shameful or "gross" or "dirty" about our bodies or our physical act of enjoying them and sharing them. I'm not saying that porn is right or wrong, good or bad. I'm just saying that it is NOT responsible for sex crimes.

Everything... EVERYTHING... in moderation. Learn it, know it, live it. Easy as can be.

Fair enough, I'm not looking to argue. I'll just say that, in my experience, habitual porn does more damage to men than anything else in our society. (I've been part of MANY support/recovery groups, not just spouting emotion) It does insane amounts of unseen crime to our marriages, our kids, our work, etc .... nothing has a grip like pornography and it's a shame that guys act like it's cool to have one hand down their pants and their other hand holding their kids/wives.

And, WTH does ISIS have to do with this sh*t?

I hate to break it to some of you, but there are people on your block just as twisted by their conflict of being taught one thing and feeling natural about the same thing. Religious sexual shame is like a ball and chain.

A society with sexual double-standards, and shaming the body CREATES what becomes porn. It's the shame and guilt attached to it that makes it sinister. That is the impetus for porn.

Telling your kid to stop touching themselves because it feels good and making them feel ashamed is worse than porn. Shaming them will probably make them wind up looking at porn because of the stereotype.

Who brought up RELIGION ? Not me. Has nothing to do with religion. I know that's your knee jerk reaction but I'm not going there.

It's actually about the weakest and most pitiful position I can imagine a MAN being in ... rubbing his penis with his hand while staring at someone's daughter and granddaughter.

"Hey son, I'm gonna head upstairs and stare at a girl who's the age of your sister in at UNC-G and rub my penis."

"Hey hun, I'm headed to the bathroom for a break, need to check out some pics of another Dad's daughter while I rub one out."

Awesome stuff ... keep defending.

I'm not defending that behavior. I'm telling you what contributes TO THE BEHAVIOR!

ISIS is religion, is it not? Religion shames sex. Society shames sex, shames the body, shames all of it... THEN, the same society sells the sh*t out of it. It creates a conflict. I'm not defending anything nor condemning anything. Porn is a RESULT of a societal double standard. If a person loses control and rapes people, that doesn't make porn the culprit anymore than violence on TV and video games makes people commit murder!.

I didn't bring up ISIS ... read carefully.

"Porn is a result of a societal double standard." What? Who cares. If you can sit down and look at someone's daughter and rub your penis with your own hand, you have a problem. Blame society, blame religion, blame your hormones ... doesn't matter. It's sick.

What? Who cares? You care, apparently. You're blaming porn and the access to it as being the culprit. I'm saying you're wrong. Porn is no more responsible for non-consensual sexual behavior than violence in movies, video games, etc. is responsible for gun violence/murders. If it doesn't matter what or who is to blame, then why are you blaming porn so fervently? I agree, there is a lot of behavior that is very unbalanced. But, if you want to curb that, it's best to treat the disease not the symptom. Porn is a symptom of a disease. It's the result of a society that shames AND exploits the human body at the same time.

How is looking at a girl/woman (provided they're at least 18) on the internet naked any more disgusting/shameful than in person? Every female you've had sex with, or hooked up with, or whatever has been someone's daughter and granddaughter as well. At least in porn they get compensated for it, and it's their choice to accept that compensation. Do you consider it worse to look at porn on the internet than to visit a strip club?

Maybe I'll feel differently if/when I'm married and have kids, but I don't think so.
