Regular season ACC Champion

Still hearing from a lot of the so call experts stating that the ACC is down this year, perhaps so. Maybe not so much the league in general but Carolina, and Duke are not at their normal statue within the league. Posted earlier in the season that the league champion would probably have at least 5 loses, based upon parity within the league. At the time figured it would be Carolina or Duke, never visualize Pitt, Miami or Clemson being in that group. Forgot to mention Virginia which they almost are always there with their defense and style of play. Once the season concludes and the start of the ACC tournament, truly believe there will be a Darkhorse winner this season as well, which VT was last season.

The so call experts are predicting 6 teams from the ACC that will be invited to the NCAA tournament, my gut thoughts are 7, and an outside chance of 8. But what the heck do the fan know, huh?

2-Point Shooting Through the Years

I was perusing some stats and found an interesting bright spot with this team. They are shooting remarkably well inside the arc this season. The team is shooting 51.4%, and Armando Bacot is certainly a big reason for that. Bacot is currently shooting 57.0% from inside the arc, 0.1% less than Tyler Hansbrough's freshman year, and higher than any of Hansbrough's subsequent seasons as a Heel. Here is how each team has shot inside the arc since 1996:

Bold = Final Four teams

As you can see, this team's performance is only eclipsed by the Final Four teams, as well as 1996, 2001, 2006, and 2007. It is right on par with the 2009 and 2017 National Championship teams, and it ranks 13th out of the last 28 seasons.

What's Wrong with the ACC?

During the last game (I think) Cory Alexander confessed that he decided he needed to downgrade the ACC to the 2nd best conference in the nation, after the Big 12.

Who is he kidding?

Pomeroy rates the ACC an embarrassing SEVENTH in the nation. Here's the list. The numbers are P's ratings, so you can see how close to or far from the other conferences we are.

Obviously you can quibble with the numbers and rankings on various grounds. But we are so far off track that it hardly matters. Who wants to waste the effort explaining how we are really only 5th in the nation?
