• Mack Brown is 110-75-1 as head coach of UNC. Brown is 285-151-1 all-time and is the
winningest active head coach in the FBS.
• Since Mack Brown returned to take over the UNC program in 2019, Carolina owns a 41-29
overall record. Seventeen of the 29 losses have been by seven points or less with four
setbacks coming in overtime.
• UNC is 23-9 when a player rushes for over 100 yards since Mack Brown returned as head
coach in 2019, as Omarion finished with 103 yards on the ground Saturday.
• UNC has had a player rush for at least 100 yards in each of the first five games for the first
time since 1983, the only other time that has happened in UNC football history. UNC is the
only program with a 100-yard rusher in each of the first five games of the 2024 season.
• UNC has had a player rush for at least 100 yards 46 times against Duke, the most against
any ACC opponent.
• North Carolina is now 66-41-4 against Duke. The 111 meetings with the Blue Devils are the
third most meetings for Carolina against any opponent.
• North Carolina is 256-126-17 against current Division I opponents from the state of North
Carolina.
• North Carolina drops to 0-1 in the ACC for the first time since 2021.
• This was the first time North Carolina and Duke have played in an ACC-opener (both teams
joined the ACC in 1953).
• North Carolina pitched a first half shutout on the road for the first time since leading
Georgia Tech 17-0 on 10/5/2019.
Offense
• Omarion Hampton recorded a career-high 50 receiving yards.
• Hampton led the Tar Heels with 103 rushing yards. Hampton is 13th all-time on UNC’s
rushing list with 2,563 rushing yards.
• Hampton is the third Tar Heel to record multiple seasons with at least five games rushing for
100 or more yards. Ethan Horton had four 100-yard rushing games in 1983 and five in 1984
and Don McCauley did it 11 times in 1970 and five times in 1969.
• Hampton has 13 games with 100 or more rushing yards, breaking a tie with Charlie Justice
and Giovanni Bernard for eighth on UNC’s career 100-yard rushing list.
• Hampton’s 37-yard reception in the second quarter was the longest of his career.
• Bryson Nesbit’s five receptions earned him his 100th career catch for Carolina. He needs 79
yards for 1,500.
• JJ Jones’s first quarter touchdown reception was his sixth career touchdown and first of the
season.
• Nesbit caught his 13th career touchdown pass and third of the season. Nesbit is UNC’s
record holder in receiving touchdowns by a tight end.

• Jacolby Criswell had multiple touchdowns for the second time in his career.
• North Carolina has not had a wide receiver or tight end over 100 yards in the first five games
of a season for the first time since 2019.
Defense
• Desmond Evans surpassed 100 career tackles with eight in the game.
• Kevin Hester Jr. had a sack for the second straight game. He has two this season and 3.5 for
his career.
• Amare Campbell recorded his third sack of the season, which is the second-most on the
team behind Jahvaree Ritzie, who has five.
• Power Echols had two pass breakups, his first of the season and a career high. Echols has
eight for his career.
Special Teams
• Noah Burnette’s eight points put him in seventh place all-time at UNC in points scored,
passing Tripp Pignetti and Charlie Justice.
• Burnette took sole possession of fifth on North Carolina’s all-time field goals list with a 40-
yard kick in the first quarter, marking the 41st of his career. He kicked his 42nd later in the
third quarter.
• Tom Maginness’s 65-yard punt in the first quarter was the longest by a Tar Heel since Ben
Kiernan’s 70-yard punt against Georgia State in 2022.

1st Indiana coach in history to start 4-0.

Back in 2021, when Mack's program took the downward turn into a losing season, I called for him to step down or be fired. Then JMU HC Cignetti was one for the 3 or 4 names I offered as much better bets for UNC to hire if it wanted a shot at winning the ACC.

If UNC had hired Cignetti in 2021 or 2022 or last year, UNC would be in much better shape than it is with way over the hill Mack the silver tongued devil.

Minnesota gave #12 Michigan a run for their money before finally losing 27-24. Maybe Minnesota was a little better than we thought. Regardless, we've got to get our act together to beat a tough Duke team.

Tonight we have the ACC's lone Top 10 team Miami hosting the flailing boys from ole VPI. Pry may get the boot after this season if he cannot get things turned around. It would be just like stupid UNC to beg ever aging mediocre Mack to hang around 1 more year at least while the Hokies fire Pry to try avoid being locked into permanent mediocrity.


BC hosts CUSA's Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers are 3-1, which might sound like nothing, but the only loss is to Bama. Last week WKU upset then 3-0 Toledo, which last year was 11-3. So WKU is still in the hunt to win CUSA.

Syracuse hosts Bob Chesney's former team, Holy Cross.

Mighty MooU hosts Fightin' Irish killers Northern Illinois. Dave Doeren;s former team.

Louisville heads to South Bend to take on the Irish. The ACC badly needs the Cards to get that W.

Wake hosts the Ragin' Cajuns.

The Cardinal, or if you prefer The Tree, makes its way into Death Valley. If Stanford was still The Indians that would be great, as we would be talking about the Indians heading to Death Valley to try to slay some Tigers.

Along those lines, the no longer winless Seminoles will be on the Plains of North Texas trying to round up some Mustangs.

After an 18-year NBA playing career and coaching at several levels, Jerry Stackhouse is joining the Golden State Warriors coaching staff. Stackhouse was the third pick in the 1995 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He made two All-Star teams and averaged 16.9 points per game over 18 seasons. Tonight

Virginia Tech is at Miami: Canes keep rolling. I’ve never been a Brent Prye guy and am less of one each week. An ugly loss could get some high rollers there looking for a way out.

Saturday

Western Kentucky at Boston College: BC had an emotional win last weekend after a stretch of important games. How ready is it for the Hilltoppers? It will at least be enough to get a victory by a couple of TDs.

Northern Illinois at NC State: NIU won at Notre Dame and in its next game lost to Buffalo. State will see the team that is squarely in between those two performances. The Pack is coming off its second game allowing 50 or more points. Close one, but State prevails late.

Holy Cross at Syracuse: This game shouldn’t be played, but it is. Cuse by a gazillion.

Louisville at Notre Dame: HUGE game for the ACC. The Cardinals need to at least be very competitive in this one, and perhaps win it. We know very little about them because they’ve only played Georgia Tech of note. Still, I think Louisville is pretty good. Irish by a nose.

Louisiana at Wake Forest: No gimmies for these Deacs. Wake wins but it may not pull away.

Stanford at Clemson: If the Cardinal ever get to Clemson (flight delays kept them in CA all day Thursday), they may hang around some. Stanford isn’t bad in its 22, but depth is an issue, and I can see the Tigers wearing them down and pulling away.

Florida State at SMU: Was FSU’s win over Cal last week a sign of a new direction for this team? It held the Bears to just 9 points, and while SMU was supposed to be really good this season, the Mustangs have been mediocre. A hunch says the Noles leave with a narrow win with a late score.
