Some Redskins are not offended by Redskins. Some N*ggers are not offended by the use of N*iggers. You know why? The word is not the offensive part. It's the USER'S INTENT when they USE the word. Canuck COULD BE offensive to someone, but the way CanuckChuck uses it is not meant to be offensive. The way "The gooks are in the wire" was used was also not intended to be offensive. If a person is offended in spite of knowing that there was no intent for offense, then they are choosing to be offended. The words are neutral, they always are, always will be. The user, and the user's intent (it's called CONTEXT) is what makes anything malicious or benign, or anywhere in between.
Gook pre-dates Vietnam. Yankee is potentially offensive to Southerners. "Creamed Corn" could be offensive if a person uses it with a malicious tone or intent. By itself.
