I don't see any offers to PFs or Cs in the 2018 class. Do we need 1 (or 2)?

We have offers to 2 largish SFs, but even if we get 1, is that enough? Hard to know.

If Tony leaves after his 2nd year - certainly plausible from what we've seen so far - that leaves us with Luke, Huff and Sterling up front. We'll know by then if Huff and Sterling are good, but even if they are, that's still a short rotation. No room for foul trouble, injuries, or someone having an off year.

Here's our likely 2018-19 roster (assuming Tony leaves early but everybody else stays). Let me know if I've missed someone. A whole lot to like, but sparse up front.

JR 6'2 Seventh Woods
SO 6'2 Jalek Felton
SR 6'4 Kenny Williams
SO 6'4 Andrew Platek
FR 6'4 Coby White
JR 6'5 Brandon Robinson
FR 6'5 Rechon Black
JR 6'6 Shea Rush
SR 6'8 Luke May
SO 6'10 Sterling Manley
SO 6'9 Brandon Huffman

Scholarships could be tricky. If Shea is on scholarship and Tony stays, that's 12 scholarships. So only 1 to give for certain. Then again, if Tony stays, the front line looks a whole lot better.

247 makes it sound like Jairus Hamilton (#41 - 6'8 209) is a lock to us. Looks like a good addition to me.

I don't think Hamilton is a lock to us just from the chatter on Premi.

Zion is essentially Charles Barkley so I'd almost count him as a big.

I think we'll try to sign two bigs from that class. I think Shea's schollie is conditional, based on availability. I may be in the minority but I think we get at least 3 years out of Tony.

I think if we do then it would be Tony's choice. Scouts have to be drooling over his measurables and ability to run the floor.

I think Black is already 6'7" and still growing so he could be a 4 by the time he gets here.

Oh, I agree. He has the potential to be very good. It's nothing but a gut feeling when I say I think he'll stay 3 years. Or perhaps wishful thinking, much like hoping Mitch and Elijah return for their senior years on the football team. Pure selfishness, guilty as charged.

ESPN has him listed at 6-7, the other sites at 6-5. I've heard rumors that he is indeed growing like a weed and may very well be 6-8/6-9 by the time he matriculates to UNC. With his handles, passing and shooting ability at that size, good grief. I think he'll play SF for us and in the pros.

DSouthr has been saying this for a while. That's why I put him in that part of the list even though he's listed as a PG elsewhere. That could mean we have less pressure to land a SF, but I wouldn't expect a quickly-growing kid to slot in as a PF right away, even if he does get tall enough.

Yeah, his doctors have said they expect him to end up 6'9"-10" but he is very thin. I am really hoping that playing for Mt Verd he will develop a bit more offensive arsenal, hasn't really been a big scorer so far.

Once you get past Bagley and rumors are WWW is already searching his family tree to see how close a cousin he is, but there isn't a ton of quality big men left. 18 looks more like a guard/wing class than a big man class. Of course things have a way of changing and kids will emerge that will be players, there is a kid in High Point that may be interesting.

Was hoping David McCormack would get some looks but that's not looking to be the case.

I don't know what else Roy can bring to Zion that he hasn't brought in the last 5+ classes. Always works hard, just doesn't seem to sell to these top guys. Still, I imagine we'll go all in on him.

If anything, I see black turning into a Brandon Ingram type guy than a John Henson (as he's been compared to). Hopefully we see either Huffman or Manley take some strides in their second year. Wouldn't bank on Bradley being here 3 years though.

Hoard?

Read something on the other site about Black now being far and away the best player on Montverdes roster. Apparently it took him some time to adjust but now hes really standing out. Thats impressive as the talent level there is substantial . Im hoping / thinking he winds up a tope 10-15 guy, and if he keeps growing height wise with the way he handles the ball , look out.

We also can't be certain that the 17 class is done. We could still add another true big or big wing.

Salivating at the possibility of Woods/Felton/Black all starting together with Black running the offense in a three PG lineup. I believe that would be 6-2/6-4/6-7* (pending on how tall Black ends up) and Black can guard opposing SFs while Woods hounds the other team's PG.

He is a big boy for sure but I am not really blown away by what I have seen of him so far, if he were in this 2017 class I think he would be a low 4 star. Strikes me like a Joel James with a little better hands. Moses Brown is another NY kid, long but doesn't really blow me away either. Bagley is the big man in this class, would suggest after him there is a huge gap but as I said, there will be some that emerge. The Hoard kid from High Point is worth keeping an eye on, he could emerge.

Leaky Black, not sure who said it but they suggested he would be more Ingram like than Henson like, don't disagree with that but would hesitate only such that Ingram was/is a much better shooter, at least so far. Leaky with a solid jumper out to he trey is a 5 star, heck he could be the #2 player in this class if he shows a solid jumper out to the trey and adding strength to go with his length.

What is going to be interesting is to see if Roy goes after wings if we are not able to lock up either Zion or Hamilton or does he shoot for a big man power forward and look to cover the wing in 19 with Joey Baker and/or Nickleberry?

What's up with that kid from Richmond? Can't remember his name, Bacot maybe?
