This is horrible to think of. Esp
With my experience. When my son was around 6 or 7 we were boogie boarding here. We were having a blast. The tide was going out and there was a strong shore current. We got sucked down the beach and i suddenly found myself in a deep hole and in a rip current. I had been holding my sons board leash with him on it to help him catch waves. I got sucked out by the rip current and lost all leverage holding him and the board. about that time a freaking huge wave came in. I tried with all my strength to hold on but the board leash snapped against the force of rhe wave and it knocked my son off the board into deep water. I was helpless against the current and i saw him tumble and struggle and then he disappeared. My freaking heart stopped and i panicked. He was gone. Then Suddenly after what seemed like an eternity i felt his body brush up against my legs underwater as he was getting sucked out by the undertow. I was able to grab him up and we clung to my board while i paddled parallel to the beach to get out of the rip tide. If he hadnt washed up against me in a one in a million shot theres no doubt in my mind he would have drowned. He was badly scraped up and swallowed a lot of water but okay. I was a mess. Couldnt stop trembling. Prob the most terrified i’ve ever been. I always think of the guilt i would have lived with if he had drowned.
I know this experience must've been terrifying because you went to the trouble of typing all that on a cell phone. Glad everyone was okay. This is horrible to think of. Esp

You do not mess with the currents/undertow at OBX. They are brutal.
