How many of you people have tried this stuff? Since I accidentally slept through the UNC game last night, I couldn't sleep well afterwards, so I went to work groggy as crap this morning. I saw this stuff at the vending area in the office and thought I'd give it a try. Within minutes, I feel like a kid who just inhaled an industrial sized bag of Skittles. I can't sit still and feel like runming a marathon. For those of you who've tried it, do you get a major crash when it wears off, or does it wear off gradually? I'm not an energy drink guy so I have no idea. Is it normal for my hands to be shaking right now? I don't coffee so I don't get much caffeine, so I'm not sure how to react to this. Beats feeling tired but I can't sit at my desk. Help me.

Like you, I'm not a coffee drinker. So I've needed a pick-me-up at times in the past and I have drunk one of those on 3 or 4 occasions. They definitely work. But they are not good for you. Stay away. I have a friend that has had two strokes (42 year old man). His doctor attributes his poor health at least in part to his consistent consumption of those things. My buddy was drinking 2 a day on most days. He was also eating a ton of pills and that's probably more to blame. But his doctor did tell him to steer clear of those things.

Have a few shots of bourbon to negate the effect.

I drank a Monster every day for 2+ years. Yes, the hands shaking is normal. Sometimes it will just make you feel more alert/awake. Sometimes it will make you feel like you have to move around because you'll die if you sit still.

Just don't make it a daily habit for as long as I did. Energy drinks put me in the hospital last November (2015) with chest pains and heartbeat irregularity. I've only had about 5 energy drinks since then, and every single time I've had one since, my heart is out of whack for a few days afterward.

Between you and @coryfly with the red wine, I just don't get it.

I cannot tell you how many young, healthy people have went overboard with those energy drinks and ended up nearly dead. We had a patient aged 27 who consumed at least ten a day and he nearly died from it after drinking them only a couple of months. One here and there won't hurt but I would suggest not drinking them again. Go by a Smoothie King and get a kale and blueberry containing smoothie. ;)

That's a legit suggestion. Those things are healthy and without a doubt, give you a boost. The only problem is that it's like eating a 4 course meal to get one of those things down and the small cost about $7. But other than that, you're right, those things bang.

I would sooner eat a chili dog from QT then that concoction

They do make other flavors and they are legit. I never buy one for the boosters though. I just buy them because there good.

That's one of those places where the selection is overwhelming - you know, like a mexican restaurant. There's just too much shit to have to read through and honestly, it probably all taste the same anyway. So I always just ask the girl behind the register, "what's your favorite?" and then I get it.

There is an alternative to that. Most mornings for breakfast I fix myself a smoothie at home. I haven't done the math because I'm not that budget-minded, but I would imagine it's at least half the cost of buying at a smoothie store.

This morning it was 10 oz. frozen blueberries, 8 oz. 2% milk, a banana, and some flaxseed oil. Yesterday I opted for peanut butter-banana with milk and honey. Tomorrow, probably strawberry. Healthy and inexpensive and very easy to prepare.

As for the original post, I'm a coffee drinker but I don't mess with energy drinks.

Well, yes you're correct but on the rare occasion you don't get any sleep..... ;)

Yep, I make mine at home too. I just assumed he was too tired to make one though lol

I am never using this again, so nobody has to worry about this being a regular occurrence. It's been three hours and I still feel like runming through a brick wall. If I had a job thst required a lot of manual labor, then I don't think this would be too bad, but for a desk job, hell no.

Just go punch a coworker who's not quite on top of her game today.

I'm chronically fatigued and need caffeine to function.

Ever looked into sleep apnia as a cause? I had same thing and now i use a cpap. It has changed my life. I wake up refreshed with much more energy throughout the day. Its hard to get used to for sure but well worth it. My wife is thankful too as it prevents snoring.

Yea the thing is u build up a tolerance really fast. In no time you'll be drinking a couple a day just to feel normal. And they have the caffeine of 5 cups of coffee i believe.

I don't snore at all when I sleep. I'm sure there's something about my sleep that's preventing me from getting well rested (other than the obvious that I stay up too late), but girls have told me I don't snore or breathe abnormally or anything like that while I sleep

Yeah, same with energy drinks re: building tolerance quickly. Your first like 20, you're like damn this is awesome. I'll never be without energy again!! Then your body quickly becomes immune to it and all they do is prevent you from going to sleep. You no longer feel alert.

Uh guys, I used "her" because it's how the academic community wants you to phrase it when the gender of the subject is unspecified/unknown. Geez, read a book.

I'm late to this thread but I'll go ahead and give my caffeine diet.

Every day, I wake up with a 5 hour energy beside my bed...I literally cannot function in the AM without it. Usually by lunchtime (give or take) when it's worn off, I'm either downing a Mtn Dew or some type of caffeinated beverage. Usually dinner time, I'm plowing through a large coffee (frozen mocha with 5 shots espresso is generally the go-to)...and I'm normally up until 2am-3am every night. I can count on one hand how many times per year I'm in bed before midnight...

And no, this is not a joke. My cardiovascular and nervous systems are battle tested. I've been operating this way since I left for college in 2001...and I'm not dead yet, FWIW.
