At least when it comes to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, which took place 52 years ago this Sunday.
Despite all the evidence that a prosecuting attorney could hope for to incriminate Lee Harvey Oswald as the lone assassin -- and all of it available to the public -- 80% of Americans still actually believe there was some high-level plot which orchestrated a conspiracy to murder the 35th President of the United States, followed by an even more elaborate coverup.
Of course it doesn't help that the full extent of most people's "research" on the matter comes from watching Oliver Stone's thoroughly fabricated movie JFK. It is utterly amazing the sheer gullibility of so many otherwise smart and articulate adults in this country.
During this Sunday's anniversary, just like every year, Dealey Plaza in Dallas will be teeming with conspiracy theorists peddling their wares, and a naive and overly trustful public will be happily lapping up their lies.
"There's a sucker born every minute." - David Hannum, in reference to P.T. Barnum
