I wonder why Roy didn't do an interview solely focused on his own physical problems and even his bouts with vertigo. It's almost as if Roy wants the focus to be on the players rather than himself. What a novel idea.
K is such a self-centered prick it's nauseating.
This is so true.
K really has made the program about himself instead of the players.
^thisTrying to hold out for Bagley..
I think you're giving the old stinky rat way too much sympathy and credit. I think his thought process is much more "if i don't get to go on this fun trip, nobody gets to go!" than it is some sly foxlike maneuver. The guy is a wiener. Simple as that.As someone who's had 3 major knee surgeries and two back surgeries, I can empathize and I hope he recovers fully soon. I feel for the man, it's hell getting old.
It is a little strange that he didn't insist that the rest of the staff take the team. I wonder how much confidence he really has in Capel, who didn't fare well when he filled in last year. I think he's a much better recruiter than coach and I think the LOM realizes that as well. This is an absolutely loaded d00k team but they have a freshman PG, and if they were to go down and not do well, it could hurt their confidence. The LOM is sly as a fox.
I think you nailed it on Capel. University of Durham will have 2-3 strong years after K retires if Capel takes over. But by years 5-6 he will have turned the program into Oklahoma basketball. His saving grace for lasting that long will be his recruiting. Capel is too much of a players coach and I don't think folks that pull for them realize yet how K stamped that program on the map and is as big if not bigger than the program. They won't fall off the map but I see them dropping back to a top 20-25 program under Capel rather than a top 3 program long term(say if Capel lasts 10-12 years). It won't be Dough bad for them because Capel isn't the "red ass" that Dough was for UNC. The UNC program dealt with this when Dean retired and it took literally the best candidate possible in Roy to right the ship for UNC. No other coach in the profession would of been able to handle the job at UNC like Roy has , does , and will continue until he retires. As someone who's had 3 major knee surgeries and two back surgeries, I can empathize and I hope he recovers fully soon. I feel for the man, it's hell getting old.

Capel isn't getting that job. He had his audition at Oklahoma and failed miserably. And his limited audition when K was out with medical issues once again proved that he doesn't have the skills to run that program. Hard to figure who they would get if they decide to pick off the K coaching tree. Brey is probably in too sweet of a position at ND, and getting too old, to take that impossible job on. Amaker ruined his chances at Michigan. Ditto Dawkins at Stanford. Snyder would be in the discussion, but his problems with the NCAA at Mizzou probably has him on the blacklist. Wojo is having marginal success at Marquette, but not the kind that makes him a shoe in. Will be a hard job to fill as it is almost impossible to follow someone with K's success. Often taking a job like that is almost a career killer. With a long time power, you want to be the guy that follows the guy who succeeds the legend.

Another year of success at Northwestern and Collins will be a lock for the job (if he wants it). He might recognize the difficulty in following a legend and choose to chart his own course (one with far less pressure and expectations) at NU. But I'm almost certain he'll get the first call. He's a perfect little K replica. K will like that.
Capel stayed at dook because he's next in line, or at least was given that hope. Anything else would cause a mutiny behind the scenes, and probably include racial undertones.
But I actually want this greasy dirt bag to get the job.
He's not next in line because he's black.Maybe so, but I just don't see them risking their cash cow with someone who has proven he wouldn't keep them at an elite level just to make a racial point.
I hope Capel gets the job so badly!
A. He sucks!
B. He is dirty!
C. He sucks at being dirty!
Hey, maybe Kelvin Sampson could take over for Cal while we are at it, lol!
Heard the Sportshop guys speculating that Bagley reclassified because ratty couldn't guarantee he would be coaching next year!
From their lips to God's ears, as my sainted Grandmother used to say!
It's pretty simple really. He reclassed so he could be a millionaire a year earlier.
It worked

Man, if ya gonna sweet talk like that, at least send flowers !![]()
