not just sports -- businesses, schools, government, healthcare, etc. -- our society is bursting at the seams with rage and violent impulses.
I have to wonder what is hubert's reason for making the threats public vs. just ignoring them?
That may be true but a curt statement such as yours minimizes how big of an issue it is.
Hubert publicizing this just made recruiting that much harder and it was already going to get more difficult coming off this season and the overall mediocrity under his tenure.
I would guess to make it crystal clear that it is NOT OK, and will not be ignored and accepted as being ok.
Death threats come with the territory? And that's acceptable?
This is disgusting and is part of the very thing I fight so hard against on here! This is the end result of focusing exclusively on the negative combined with our society's intentional devaluation of personal accountability, truth, compassion, empathy, and the Carolina Way! Obviously, I am not implying that peeps on here did this, but this is the extreme that results from UNC becoming just like everyone else! We really need to immediately jettison every single "fan" who places winning above character or denigrates Family relentlessly! 300+ D-1 programs are available and this type of behavior is commonplace in many of them if peeps need a new home!
BTW: I hope they prosecute each of those gutless pieces of trash to the fullest extent of the law! You have to be an absolute waste of skin to threaten people's children just because they lost a freakin' game! AND anyone who finds this type of thing either insignificant or acceptable needs counseling! "Ignore it"-wow that would be about the dumbest thing someone could do these days!

Some of these tone-deaf responses make me worry about the family members of those posting them or that somehow it's 1910 again.

He's independent to fault and thinks he's invincible: if I found out someone was making death threats his way you're damn sure I wouldn't hope it was covered up or kept quiet especially to spare any potential impact on recruiting.

Don’t put words in my post. I never suggested that it should be kept quiet. I am surprised Hubert publicized it, particularly on a radio show. Reporting these to the authorities as they happened might’ve been a more appropriate alternative.

Nobody did, I just added it. And I am not asking for a solution other than calling it out as insane. Hubert said it, I think it's our responsibility to report it, and I chose this approach.
Yea, I think the more this kind of behavior is ignored (aka accepted), then it can only lead to bad things. Social media is the ultimate conundrum in today's society. The good it can do is absolutely incredible. The bad in can do can literally be life/death.
I like that some pro athletes are being vocal telling fans to shut up about their parlays. But it's a double edged sword. The popularity gets you great opportunities, but there's a clear and wrong downside to this kind of fame.
The moral of the story is sports shouldn't be taken as seriously as it is for many people. Espcially when it's being played by 18-24 year olds.
It's wrong of me because it's irrelevant to this, but I do wonder if Hubert would've brought this up if his team were still playing. Or even if UNC had a good season and got upset in the second round as a 2 seed. This seemed like a culmination of a bad year thing to me. And I admit, probably wrong of me to look into it in that regard.

BUT ALSO.. I wish Hubert would shine more light upon some other things as well!! For instance, be more forthcoming and take more responsibility for when your offense is stagnant and what adjustments you should and/or could be making! Instead of offering up the same Pivot, Alter and Change responses.
Some of us have been watching ball a long time and when we see stagnant, and the question is asked why it is stagnant and you say, as the head coach, "I don't agree that it was stagnant", that does not make us more confident in you as the head coach.
Being a good person is the most honorable thing to be!! However, Niceness doesn't make a person a good coach.
This new era of college sports is definitely different! Prayers up for athletes and their families!

Personally I think he should have reported the incidents and said nothing more. If asked, simply say there have been threats made and they are cooperating with authorities in their investigations. No need for him to bring it up unsolicited but just my opinion.
Is there proof that this actually happened and was it UNC fans and how do you know it was UNC fans….Was it reported to the law…

That certainly reads like you're suggesting that "publicizing it" was going to make recruiting harder. That implies that making it public does more harm than good. And, god forbid UNC doesn't get beyond this "mediocrity"... that's absolutely a priority (sarcasm). It's stuff like this- putting the success of a sports team above all- that helped contribute to the violations over at Penn State under Paterno and Jerry Sandusky. "Don't let it get out! It might hurt our cash-cow football team!"
There had better be some proof. I hope Hubert Davis didn't embellish or go hyperbolic on a show with death threats. I don't know him personally, but he doesn't seem like the type of person to do that.
The unfortunate side of social media and bad parenting. More and more people have grown up on social media and run their mouth without it getting popped for mouthing off to the wrong person. There is a growing rabid fandom that exists in sports across all sports and that mentality bleeds into business and politics too.
Exactly this is breaking the law…And those involved that did it should be prosecuted….The records should be there…Hold these people accountable…

Bam. Exactly right. And as tight-lipped as Hubert was all season, it’s a bid odd that he would be so forthcoming on this. I’m not saying he’s using it to deflect from the poor season but that’s in my mind enough to make mention of it.
The incidents should be reported to law enforcement and those responsible should be charged. I assume (I hope!) parents of team members were notified and players were given the opportunity to see a therapist and work through any trauma caused.
But there is zero value in Hubert bringing this up at this point. If indeed it did effect any of the players psychologically, I presume it was several weeks/months ago and bringing it up now - in a public forum - is needlessly stirring up possible frightened feelings again. Not to mention that those making the threats got just what they wanted - a shoutout on a podcast from Coach.
From the stand point of comprehension alone there is precious little that one should expect to be derived from the initial phrase than 'Hubert's comments on topic X will hurt recruiting'. It was neither Finnegan's Wake nor remotely Kafkaesque. There is no circular narrative, no mercurial inuendo attempting to trip up the reader for comedic or dramatic effect.
This junk in unacceptable anywhere, but absolutely makes me sick to my stomach coming from what is supposed to be a sophisticated and classy fan base.

With that said, scanning some supposedly Carolina-oriented sites this season, and seeing emotional (as well as some frankly moronic) takes about players devolve into vitriol, this becomes sadly less surprising.
What good does it do to bring this out on a radio show other than to gain pitty for him and his staffs shitty coaching job.
You handle this through the authorities not through social platforms. These people could be tracked down and face legal consequences and if that isn't taking place don't complain about it happening.
