AJ: No More Surprises, We Know Who The Heels Truly Are
After 31 games, there is nothing new to learn about North Carolina, as the Tar Heels have shown who they are all season.

He pretty much called a turd a turd and finally said what almost everyone on this forum has been saying for the last 2-3 months. Not being a paying member at the moment, I can only read the first 2 paragraphs, but those 2 paragraphs are pretty devastating.
It's really interesting because that "lightning in a bottle" was pretty damned significant. It amazes me how quickly people just forget and expect a new gratification. We have really known what they are for the past three years. One good run and lightning in a bottle doesn’t change anything. No basketball IQ and no heart at the end of a game. Smacked in the mouth and they crumble
Can't argue with one word of that entire post. The send off(s) given to K was epic and will forever be one of my favorite UNC memories and as UNC fans we always expect great things, especially from men's bball teams. I guess the most disappointing thing about this season was with all the experience there was absolutely zero leadership, and a team that was loaded with seasoned players played incredibly soft, wilted consistently under pressure and with few exceptions was completely effortless 90+% of the time and that's the most memorable take away I will have for the 22-23 "squad", have yet to see a team play this year.UNC basketball fans are some of the most spoiled and ungrateful fans I've ever seen... and, I'm a UNC fan!
Exactly. It almost feels like this season is the basketball gods getting theirs, as payback for those 2 epic dookie take-downs. If so, it was still worth it.There is NOTHING that can take away sending Coach K home TWICE.
As disappointing as this season has been, sending Krazywhiskey out that way was worth it.Exactly. It almost feels like this season is the basketball gods getting theirs, as payback for those 2 epic dookie take-downs. If so, it was worth it.
To me, and to a lot of people, beating the dookies in Cameron on K's final home game was all that was needed last season. I remember feeling more satisfied with that win than I did when they won the NCAA in 2017!!! It was exhilarating! K and the Brotherhood had their party ruined and they set it up to be ruined! UNC spiked the ball in their face in a game that is arguably the most "important" game in the history of the rivalry.Exactly. If he isn't honest, then he is wasting his time and the readers' time.He pretty much called a turd a turd and finally said what almost everyone on this forum has been saying for the last 2-3 months.
Yeah .. but all things considered he has to tread a bit lightly to keep a healthy open working relationship with the players. But at some point in time the entire UNC fan base will require some objective journalistic honesty and to stop putting sugar and on chit.If he isn't honest, then he is wasting his time and the readers' time.
The reality of sports is that when a coach fails to get the team able to play as it should, at its high end level, then that coach is going to be perceived as not doing his job. And that's what is going on now.To me, and to a lot of people, beating the dookies in Cameron on K's final home game was all that was needed last season. I remember feeling more satisfied with that win than I did when they won the NCAA in 2017!!! It was exhilarating! K and the Brotherhood had their party ruined and they set it up to be ruined! And, THEN... beat them in the ONLY NCAAT game they've ever played in history, and it was a Final Four game, and sent K home for LIFE on a loss. And, who ever expected HD, in his first season, to come anywhere close to that? It can't even be quantified how deep that wound was inflicted. I don't see how they could ever get even with the Heels for that... ever. I mean, maybe if they one day met in the NCAA in the Championship game... MAYBE. But, what's the likelihood of that?
UNC fans expect WAY too much from a bunch of kids throwing a ball around. And, the truth is, they actually GET a whole helluva lot from those kids. This is like the weather... we have no control over it. Enjoy the sun when it's shining!
Last year was great but whatever happened to having back to back great/good seasons? Memories of years gone by and what it used to be like as a Tar Heel fan. It's really interesting because that "lightning in a bottle" was pretty damned significant. It amazes me how quickly people just forget and expect a new gratification.
I realize most people are down in the dumps, now. That's understandable. But... let's just say that this season's poor performance was the cost of last season's success. It's obviously not an actual trade-off, but big deal. Would you still make the deal? I know I would. I would do it for several years of this. That run brought memories that most schools would give anything to have experienced just once. Teams that win 5 NCAAT games in a row, and get to the final game, are not flukes. I just don't believe that.
There is NOTHING that can take away sending Coach K home TWICE. The way UNC dispatched and humiliated the dookies last year is like Agent Orange. It has splattered everywhere, for perpetuity. In fact, I don't think there's any way that Jon Scheyer or 16 Jon Scheyer's can do anything to match those two losses. Sweeping UNC in a crappy overall year for both teams and the conference is hardly a beginning of a pimple on the butt of what UNC handed the dookies last season.

They're in the past, that's what happened to them. It doesn't mean it's not in the future, but it's not unreasonable to expect some less-successful transition. And, going to the NCAAT Championship in year one isn't really a less-successful transition.Last year was great but whatever happened to having back to back great/good seasons? I think a lot of it has to do with the way he was hired. He was basically handed the job, without having to go through the traditional route you would expect from a blue blood. If you're going to be "anointed" then you better show you deserve it. Possibly going from #1 to NIT isn't a great way to show that. They're in the past, that's what happened to them. It's pretty amazing how impatient UNC fans are with HD. He goes to the NCAAT Championship, beats Coach K in the most memorable ways possible, and one year later, they still won't give him any love.

ETA: I do find it odd that you hold our mediocre football program to a higher standard than basketball. You are normally ready to fire coaches after one game during football season.
He knows our program better than any of us do, he’s around it every day. While some here want to blame this underachieving season on the player(s), he sees what most of us see. The staff shares the responsibility as well. That isn’t really debatable at this point. He pretty much called a turd a turd and finally said what almost everyone on this forum has been saying for the last 2-3 months.
