Alabama football being investigated for recruiting violations

I got no problem with you or anyone else posting their opinion about the subject at hand. In fact I agree with you for the most part. My problem is when comments like that are made. I just don't understand why people act like there's some conditions that have to be met to be a true fan. It irritates the hell out of me.

A month or so ago, Gary posted information and his opinions about other schools and their recruiting tactics potentially being "shady". For some reason, this prompted a few of the football board's more well-known to dispute a number of his posts on this board as well as make accusations of others being "basketball only" fans, and suggested we should "continue supporting another team in Football" for coming to his defense. That's pretty much what I was referring to.

As far as "fan requirements" statements, I do agree about it being annoying about people believing there's some kind of quota that needs to be met, and have pointed this out as well. I wasn't really questioning anyone's allegiance as much as referring to those that only appear when we talk about other schools and something that appears to be potentially "shady" and remind us we shouldn't do so. As if we're disqualified from talking about every single NCAA violation topic. If that were the case, I can think of plenty of fanbases that shouldn't pop up here as much as they do to talk about ours.

And speaking of the football board, I'm not much of a football guy. Great sport, just not as interesting as basketball to me. I don't mind watching and I'll support the football team through and through, just like any other UNC affiliated sports team. Just don't think that means I have to post on the football board to do so. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

It doesn't matter to me where you post. If you don't want to post on the football board I'm fine with that. It doesn't matter to me if you're a bigger basketball fan either. Truth be told I prefer baseball. When you put the word fans in quotations that comes off as being judgemental. Maybe that wasn't your intent. I just hate seeing it so that's why I made the comment.

A coach making illegal contact with a recruit is not even close to the degree of Bama treachery @gary-7 has preached about. So no, this occurrence doesn't validate his claims, IMO.

The illegal contact is speculation on my part based on what I have heard. If the investigation proves Bo Davis did more than that, I'll gladly come back and admit I was wrong about the severity of THIS specific violation.
illegal contact charge during dead period has been verified. The players involved did not go to Bama per 247 story.

Emmert attended syracuse. Got his phd there iirc. So i'm more than a little skeptical that his ties to lsu as chancellor keep him from enforcing ncaa rules on ala since he had no prob dropping the hammer on his alma mater and their hof coach.

Plus lets be real. This accusation against ala (ncaa cover up) is from an auburn fan. Its no different than a state fan making allegations against unc in the af am deal.

Florida had nearly identical violations and the recruiter resigned as well and ncaa did nothing. Was emmert chancellor of fla as well? Uhhhh no.

...and thus the sacrificial lamb. Little Nicky occasionally has to give Uncle Tommy some cover.
Granted, it is Monday so my brain isn't functioning on pull power, but your Uncle Tommy reference eludes me. Please explain.

The dude LOST his job over whatever he did, that is a big deal. Whatever you say though boss, you are the football expert. Not sure why you get your panties in a bunch everything football is talked about.
Yes, he did lose his job. That's pretty standard punishment for someone who commits a violation (this can be fireable, but it can also not be) but then compounded that mistake by lying to Saban about it not cooperating with the internal investigation (or NCAA investigation, depending on the source you read). Him losing his job isn't a sure-fire sign the violation is egregious. If one of our assistant basketball lied to Roy about something like that, he would definitely be forced to resign.

As for panties getting in a bunch, I don't know why you get so bent out of shape when I post, boss.

Not silly when someone says the following...

I agree, there is and need not be some fan test that has to be passed in order to qualify as a Tar Heel fan. But I as well realize what folks say follows with them and that is very true for those that say outlandish things that most times are only said in an emotion state. I have seen far to much like time to go ole Roy or I am done with this team.

Yes, there are folks that go to the other extreme when you say something that is a it on the negative side of things, example critique Roy's decisions in a game and you get the reply back "do you know more than Roy", which is really hard to take as well. The other one that gets me is Just trust Roy! Well I trust Roy, that does not mean I agree with him all the time!

The ONLY and I mean ONLY time you will find me questioning someone's fan hood is when it is someone new that I strongly suspect as trolls looking to stir up trouble. I don't question folks fan hood that I know are Tar Heel fans and I really don't like getting in to an argument with folks I know are Tar Heel fans, I try not to, at times it is hard not to.

It is hard at times to really understand what someone is saying with the written word, it in this thread is shown by my not realizing a reply was not aimed at what i said. I use a lot of words to do all I can to make sure what I say is understood. I write like I talk and yeah, I use a lot of words either way! LOL

But I do think among Tar Heel fans, we can be more tolerant, but that is made easier if folks didn't feel the need to use extreme terms that many times take their opinions further than they realize.
