Shutting the other "Luke" thread down. Thoughts?

Such a shame so many of our threads have to be locked because a few posters can't agree to disagree in a civil manner, Mike. I don't envy you or the other mods, especially with everything you've already got on your plate. This sort of sums up my assessment of Luke's roll this year.Shutting the other "Luke" thread down. Thoughts?

I think mike wants this thread to be about Luke, not other posters.Such a shame so many of our threads have to be locked because a few posters can't agree to disagree in a civil manner, Mike. I don't envy you or the other mods, especially with everything you've already got on your plate.
It is indeed, especially with Isaiah's propensity to be foul prone. It's important for Luke to get minutes and continue to improve, because we'll need him down the stretch. It's unrealistic to think we can get by on three bigs.
So no one will admit this...but do some people praise our white role players more than our other role players?
I've seen a ton of Stillman and Luke love on this board, but very little for BRob.
Did we ever start a Desmond Hubert appreciation thread after he played decently vs a mid major? I think not.

These two posts convinced me that both of you have lost your minds, something I've long expected. You've left me no sane option but to ignore you.Yeah, I asked the question in the other thread yesterday that if Joel James had a game where he was criticized and then a good one if wed have appreciation threads for him or not.
How could you forget Matt Wenstrom? ** flips his bangs **i dont really recall 4 bigs on the 82, 93, 05, 09 teams maybe 93--montross, salvadori, lynch, was there a 4th??

He got some burn in the NC game against Michigan, actually.
As I said...I don't think anyone is racist. It's just an interesting observation and having a convo about it is only wrong to those who are for some reason uncomfortable talking about it.
But back to my original point...why are we doing 2 appreciation threads for a guy averaging less than a point and a rebound vs. top competition?
Because 1) he's a Tarheel and 2) because obviously someone wants to.
It's a message board that we pay to belong to, and this board is for talking about Tarheel hoops. I don't recall anyone issuing any of you a damn badge and giving you thread topic approval authority.
If you don't like it, you have options.
Mine as well. The guys with limited ability who persevere, represent the university with class, and sometimes overachieve are my favorites. Joel James from last year's team exemplifies that type of player. Some of my favorite all time Heels have been the underdog types. I always said Warren Martin was one of Dean's greatest coaching accomplishments. Martin couldn't catch the ball or run the court twice when he first got here, and by his senior year he was a solid contributor. I always pulled for Hubert Davis because he was told he'd never play much at UNC. Same with Shammond. Watts and Copeland were two faves because their love for UNC was clear for all to see. Geff Crompton was another that I always wished to see do well. Others were Brad Hoffman, Scott Cherry, Timo, Jackson Simmons.
For anyone to even remotely insinuate that it's race based is absurd, and just shows that someone has a ax to grind.
Indeed. Can't for the life of me understand why race was even brought up, other than possible dain bramage. The only color that matters to me is the blue and white on their uniforms.
This is going well.

Hopefully Hark doesn't check it before setting the total. If not, we can make a mint taking the under.
ETA: DAMMIT
I don't think there's any doubt that we're going to require 6-8 solid minutes from Luke, especially with Isaiah's persistent foul issues.I'm happy for Luke that he had a good game against Davidson, we needed it. I hope he continues to bust his behind in practice and give us a couple solid minutes when called upon.
I'm actually more nervous when 7th/Brandon are in there, but I understand why they're getting experience for the future. I'm also nervous when Nate is in the game too. Luke's numbers are actually better than Nate's, per minute played. Bottom line is we're going to need Luke and Nate to play some crunch time minutes if we're going to make a deep run.As of now - I'd prefer to not see him in during crunch time of games, or much once we hit decent competition (see: Indiana game). But if he continues to improve he can work his way into that conversation as well.
As much as this board struggles to have decent, respectful, discussions about basketball do you really think it possible to have a race related reasonable discussion here or in any public forum and it not drop down in to allegations and insults? Even if it were possible this would not be the place for it. But I don't know that it is possible, if it is I have yet to see it.

First, throw out last season's numbers --- Luke was a freshman getting spot duty on a loaded team. Not sure how this changes the fact that he's yet to play a good game vs. good competition. Mike, the numbers don't lie here...in games vs. top 25 teams:
2.5 mpg, .714 ppg, .571 rpg.
Really?
Plus, it's not just numbers. Anyone who watched these games saw Maye looked completely overmatched.
Once he starts playing well vs good competition we will begin to show the type of blind love that you do.
But, if you want to go ahead and do numbers even given the limited database of this season...
He's averaging 12 minutes/game and 4.2 Pts, 3.8 Rebs, 1.2 Assists
so projected over 40 minutes, we're talking 14.0 Pts, 12.7 Rebs, 4.0 Asissts
His only bad number is TO ratio, which is not at all unusual for young Bigs. Luke is a very good passer but needs to take care of the ball better.
Mike is not showing "blind love", and no, Luke does not look "overmatched" (unless you're gonna judge him on one game after sitting 2 weeks with a very bad wheel).
Granted, he may not be the prototype long-armed, rangy basketball-freak athlete, but Luke IS athletic.
and as his numbers and eye-test indicate he can bang inside and rebound and pass.
Ok but what about Hubert or Watts? But Bobby Frasor, Jackson Simmons, Luke Maye, Stillman White are legends on this board.
It's just an interesting observation. I'm not calling anyone racist because I don't think anyone is, I think it's just more subconscious more than anything.
Hes only played 8 min this year against top 25 comp. Everyone else gets a pass on their fresh yr. Kenny did. diong just fine now. BTW I'm not saying hes Kenny, but whats good for the goose is good for the ganderDoing 40 min numbers on someone getting 12 min per game is so flawed it's ridiculous.
You watching the same games as everyone else? He looks completely lost against top 25 teams.
This got a laugh. Athletic compared to what? Certainly not other ACC players.
Neither pass against top 25 competition.
Seriously, two Luke Maye appreciation threads in one day is a new low.
And btw, while I do not agree with the whole race idea, I totally agree and rock the idea of showing Brob some more love. Man Dadika13 can you imagine if more of our guys played with that kind of aggression and killer instinct? So no one will admit this...but do some people praise our white role players more than our other role players?

Hi DSouthr, GOD BLESS YOU MY BROTHER, you are a very good brother. My friend, you choose to recognize the good in a person. We are not PERFECT, which means you can see as much bad as their is good. FREE WILL to choose. ENOUGH SAIDNo matter what level of player Luke is, was, or will be he is a Tar Heel and what ever he can bring is needed, especially so now with Theo on the shelf. The one thing that I do know about Luke is that no matter what he lacks in talent, he will bring all he has to bring to each minute he is on the court. Truth is that does not define every player on that roster, if that were not true we would not see poor intensity to begin a game like we did vs Davidson. No he is not the most talented guy and I don't see him ever being a NBA guy and even his being a starter for us is very unlikely but he is a role player that gives what he has to give and that is all I or anyone should be asking or expecting from him.
I hear you soap.
There's always been disagreements on here and healthy, intellectual discussion
But, this year, it's turned into a real Hatfield - McCoy bloodfeud and it's so so so so tiring.
