Can't wait for next year? Me neither. Here is a quick look at our schedule so far:

Total Games: 31 (18 ACC, 13 non-conference)

Non-Conference Confirmed (11 games):

@ Tennessee
@ Stanford
@ Davidson
vs Wofford
vs Northern Iowa
vs Tulane
vs Michigan (ACC/B1G Challenge)
vs Ohio State (CBS Sports Classic in New Orleans)
3 games at Phil Knight Invitational
- vs Portland
- vs Arkansas/Oklahoma
- vs Oregon/UConn/Mich St/Georgetown

Looks like we will start the season vs Northern Iowa, then do a West Coast sojourn @ Stanford and in Oregon for the Invitational (all games are scheduled in November). While we don't know our specific opponents in that tournament, we can get a good idea. There are 16 teams scheduled for two 8 team tournaments, with each bracket getting no more than 1 team from any conference. So Dook is in the Invitational, but they are sure to be in the other 8 team bracket. Ohio State and Michigan State are both in it, but since we already play Ohio State I am pretty positive we will be in Michigan State's bracket. Oregon will be in our bracket because Stanford is the other Pac-12 team, and we already play them this year. Gonzaga is also in there, and I doubt they'd miss the chance to pair us together. Portland and Portland State are in, and since we should get a #1 seed I'm guessing one of them will be our opening day opponent. A possible 3 game schedule could be Portland, Winner of Mich State vs. Oklahoma, and then Gonzaga/Florida/Arkansas. Other possible opponents are Texas, Butler, UConn, and Georgetown. Sounds like a fun tournament.

Outside of that we have some rematches from last year, with us going to Davidson and Tennessee this time. I'll assume that the B1G/ACC challenge is at home since last year we played at Indiana. It's not likely to be against MSU since we could play them in Oregon. So maybe Michigan, Wisconsin, or Maryland? They usually want us to play a marketable team for TV. That gets us to 13 home games for the year. I'll assume we want the other two remaining games at home. We had 16 home games last year, and those are important for generating revenue. So with 7 confirmed non-home dates, we already can only max at 15 home games.

Possibilities for the last two non-conference games:

Kentucky: There seems to be mutual interest in a date for 2017 (see: http://sports.usatoday.com/2016/05/31/uk-basketball-getting-paid-to-hit-road-in-201617/). In that link it says Kentucky goes for 17 home games a year. If Kentucky can satisfy that they may be up for a game in Chapel Hill in return for a home game in 2019 (we are already scheduled to play a neutral site game in the CBS Sports Classic in 2018). I think most of us would love this option.
1 more low-major team: Otherwise the spots will likely be filled by low-major teams that we can get to come to Chapel Hill for $25-50k. That gets us up to 15 home games, with hopefully one marquee home date vs a B1G opponent and possibly the UK game.

ACC schedule (18 games):
2 games against Duke, NC State, Clemson, and Notre Dame; 1 vs everyone else

That's a decent doubles slate. Clemson (no Blossomgame) and NC State should be rebuilding, while Notre Dame loses a couple of pieces but keeps Bonzi Colson. We do unfortunately get Virginia, Cuse, and Louisville on the road every even year (plus FSU and VT), which will be tough. Our home schedule looks pretty easy, as Dook could end up being the only top 25 ACC team we play at the Dean Dome. If we can hold serve on the road we should have a chance at a regular season title again.

Update: Added in Portland and Arkansas/Oklahoma for the PKI tournament. As predicted we have Oregon and Michigan State in our bracket, although they did not throw Gonzaga in there with us. Added Michigan; they did end up giving us a high profile partner.

Any ideas on how I would get tickets for the Stanford game? I want to be in the UNC section so "Stanford box office" or "Ticketmaster" not the answer I'm looking for.

Unc and Michigan state would be a good matchup this season
Good but tough.

Unless I missed something, they return most of their top players and bolster their front line with a couple of PFs, including 7th ranked Jaren Jackson. They have decent outside shooting and 2 high-assist guys. Plus, of course, Bridges, who surprised everybody by not going pro after a fine frosh season. Probably a lottery pick.

This could be one of Izzo's better teams.

I thought Miles took his name out of the draft too!

I ain't scared of Kentuck and I'm certainly not scared of their poorly coached bigs! If they can find enough balls, and if they can convince them to play as a team, they will be formidable. Our bigs have already played against their bigs and have held their own. I'm betting Roy can coach us up enough to give them all they want!

Heels are Champs!

Update: Added in Portland and Arkansas/Oklahoma for the PKI tournament. As predicted we have Oregon and Michigan State in our bracket, although they did not throw Gonzaga in there with us. It sort of makes sense, as having UNC, Michigan State, Oregon, and Gonzaga on the same side would have made for quite the uneven bracket.

Update: Added Michigan. As expected they gave us a high profile game for TV.

Non-Conference Confirmed (11 games):

Just for fun, I penciled in the Pomeroy rankings from last season.

@ Tennessee (57)
@ Stanford (102)
@ Davidson (85)
vs Wofford (--)
vs Northern Iowa (169)
vs Tulane (241)
vs Ohio State (73)
vs Michigan (20)
vs Portland (280)
vs Arkansas (35) or Oklahoma (65)
vs Oregon (10) or UConn (96) or Mich St (40) or Georgetown (69)

Applying my usual cutoff of 150 to define a "creampuff" we only have 4 creampuffs, so far.

Now those rankings will change, of course. So there may be some changes in that creampuff assessment. But so far it's not a very creampuffy schedule. If anything, N.Iowa probably won't be a creampuff next season, since they almost never are.

Our freshmen will have to be ready, because our first 3 games could be very hard. Not only are they all on the road, but, for example, Tennessee only lost 1 starter and they nearly beat us last year on our court. We eked it out by 2 points and without some home court calls could have lost. Similarly, Stanford only lost 1 starter. Plus, Davidson - which, you guessed it, also only lost one starter - is always well-coached and often gives us a hard time. We beat them by 9 on our court last season.

Frankly, I won't be even slightly surprised if we lose at least one of those opening games.

Without even knowing the final 2 OOC teams, there's a good chance we have 4 loses by ACC play. Maybe more.

Agreed, so far the schedule looks pretty tough. Only 3-4 creampuffs so far. My guess is we probably schedule the other two non-conference games against non-P5 teams, but no idea what level of difficulty they will be. If we play Oklahoma in round two of the PKI we would play at least one team from each of the other P5 conferences, which is cool.

One note, I don't have the schedule listed in order. I just put the away games up front, followed by the home games and then the neutral site games. All we know about the order at this point is that the N. Iowa, Stanford, and PK Invitational games are all in November, hence my prediction that we start off against N. Iowa and then do a West Coast trip.

Berry did not play vs Tennessee so that result means nothing. Also Oregon is gonna be a cupcake and we won't be playin them

Why the hell are they playing at Tennessee at the end of the acc schedule? Or Is this not in order?

The games without dates aren't in order because we always finish up with dook. One of the Davidson games was probably a typo.
Okay. Cuz one was home and one way away on the list. So I thought we were playing them twice for some reason lol

Thanks for this. Still needs two more non-conference games for a full schedule.
