And meanwhile elsewhere...

VERY curious to see how Cal gets all of these 5*'s minutes next season without going full platoon.

Maybe one day an 18 year old kid will wake up and realize he promises the world to all of them.

They have a very interesting roster. Lots of bigs/wings.......but hardly any guards. They won't have a lot of shooting.

Well they finally have a coach who knows his arse from a hole in the ground so there's that.

State might be potentially good next year, but they are still State so they will find a way to Fultz it up!

I'm very excited to watch Slimy try to manage egos/promises/pt! Good thing ratty never even considers keeping his promises!

I sincerely hope Johnson doesn't end up there. That would be a big boost to their shooting, although it wouldn't do much to address their backcourt needs per se.

With Diallo back, that seems likely, although I think someone here said Cal had rejected trying that again. We'll see.

Their second platoon would probably be a pretty good seed in the NCAAT.

I've never said this on any thread ever but....

State's gonna be good

I don't know if you're serious. After losing Smith, Rowan, Kapita and Anya, it's hard to see how they have enough bodies. They might have enough talent to field a good starting five, but then what?

OTOH, a new coach might make the returning talent into a good team. All their starters could be quite good, imo. But they have yet to prove it.

Markell Johnson started coming on at the end of the year.
Torin Dorn is much better than he gets credit for.
Terry Henderson - if he's allowed to return - can shoot the lights out.
Abu - a Hicks-like athletic talent with a low BB IQ, could get great with good coaching.
Yurtseven - clearly looked lost as a frosh, but very smooth; look for a breakout season.

But where's the bench?

Honestly, all State-hating aside, they need to start with a culture change... and sometimes addition-by-subtraction has to be practiced to accomplish that. And who knows, the new guy may do just that over time.

They could be decent this season but as you say, depth has to be an issue.

Al Freeman - Graduate transfer from Baylor
Shaun Kirk - Jr - not much playing time, has defensive liabilities
Darius Hicks - So - could develop into solid role player
Lennard Freeman - RS - Sr
Lavar Batts - NC Player of the year in HS last year

Not sure if Henderson will receive a 6th year wavier from NCAA, so I would not count him, yet.

Just a FYI, but a squad that will need much better conditioning, and a commitment to play defense.

Attitude is an issue as well. Do that have that alpha male that refuses to lose and drags others with him, like Joel? If they just run plays and try to get be in the right positions they will win some games, but that attitude that Joel, JJ, and Kennedy had is what separates you from the field.

Moo has screwed up everything they have done since the mid 80's in every single sport, except bass fishing and swimming. I will continue to believe that there is absolutely no way they will be successful. They could hire Roy, K, Cal and Self at the same time and I would still bet they would suck because that's what they do. They will always find a way to screw it up. Always.

LOL 910, stop holding back and tell us what you really feel for Moo!

I actually hope Keatts can bring them back to respectability. I remember the days when they were our main rival and it will make the games more relevant when we sweep them next season.

BTW: On paper puke, KU, UK, Villanova, and Oregon were supposed to be better than us LAST year! Kentuck and puke were supposed to be heads and shoulders better than the rest of the NCAA too, BUT........

UNC = 7 time National Champs!

I just cannot wish respectability or relevance for the woofies.

I can because I loved the Big 4 Round Robin Tourney days! I also separate Moo U from their idiotic, delusional fanbase!

Except for puke, I want the entire ACC to do well also. (as long as UNC is on top!)

I thought I read Freeman was gone. But if he's back, that helps a lot. Could give them one of the better ACC front courts, if they all play up to potential.

Batts gives them PG depth, if he's ready to play.

I don't expect much from Kirk or Hicks, but that could change with a different coach. The tiny bit I've seen from Kirk showed promise. I can't remember Hicks at all. If the new coach is like K they won't see the court. If he's like Roy, they'll get as much PT as they can handle.

Henderson should certainly get a waiver. Kid transferred and sat out a year and then was knocked out with an injury in the very first game of his first eligible season at State. Hard to imagine a more deserving case. In fact, it would be a travesty if he didn't get a waiver. Then again, the NCAA and travesties are no strangers.

Yeah, that's part of what I was referring to with the "culture change". That team reaked of selfinshness and were ready to quit in fcae of adversity.

Sux will be better under Keatts, how much better? Time will tell.
Personally I was upset when they fired Gott. lol
I confess I felt sorry for Gott. Sure, they sucked. But the school was classless in the way they handled his firing, whereas he maintained reasonable poise to the end.
