Kid looks good for a freshman...might be time to see Dalton for a little pass rush....Thoughts??????

The fact that Dalton didn't get any PT against NCA&T, leads one to believe the staff is looking to redshirt him.

But yeah, Andre Smith looked good and composed!

I look at the redshirt like this...If he turns out to be great you only get 2 years of him... Now play him now and you get 3 years.... Let the kid play in a real game and let's see what he is about...Hell if we redshirt him and he blows up he leaves after 2 years on the field...Play that Man...

UNC fans worried about the QB....Last of my worries...I want the OLine and DLine to get right...When they do people will have problems....

Totally agree and can only counter that JD is so young (just turned 18) that I can see why you RS him.

I would like to see him on the field. I don't think it looks good to recruits to ask a 4 or 5 star kid to redshirt. It sounded like in the off season he was ready. I am stumped as to what has changed, but I am not at practice.

Agreed. This aint 1980. The most highly rated recruits today want to be drafted after 3 years in college and see staying more than 4 years in college as a failure acceptable only to season ending injury.

Other than injury, I say all recruits who are 4 or 5 stars should play as freshmen even if they fail to crack the 2 deep.

I was under the impression that the vast majority of players stay in college four years. I'm sure that some of the best leave after three years, but don't they represent a pretty small percentage of players drafted? Of course, the less talented a team, the more likely a top recruit is to play as a true freshman.

Dalton played HS at 220 lbs. He is currently 280 lbs. The kid has a ton of talent, but he is really raw and needs time in the weight room. Also, the staff needs to decide if he is going to be a rush end, or if he is going to eat his way into an athletic 3 technique. Redshirt is the best way to go.
