Got to admit, this was a guy that really was hoping Roy would offer because of his perimeter shooting ability. Also, Platek has been really high on UNC for a while and has mentioned that it would be his dream offer. Well, Roy offered last night so hopefully he will be the next commit. You cannot have enough knock down shooters on the perimeter and this kid fits the bill.

I like this a lot ...Not a banger but he is a big and can shoot and score from the outside

he's a shooting guard Key, 6'4 I believe. I don't want to get my hopes up, but it sounded like he wanted to commit last night when Roy offered. When asked if this speeds up his college decision, he said something of the likes of "I think id be lying if I said it didn't" and that he needed to talk to his family.

My mistake.... thought he was a big from Illinois? who loves to shoot from the outside and LOVES Carolina cannot think of that kids name. I also think he is class of 16( and could help us THIS year) and this kid Platek is 17 class kid

I get the feeling Roy particularly wants a quick commit behind the recent news to illustrate momentum. How far up do folks think he'll move in rankings?

I am going to guess, 4 star in the 50-60 range

The youngster got the offer he coveted, so, lets see how long after his visit before he commits to Roy. One of the best outside shooters in the class, we'd be lucky to get his services . .

I'm not seeing this kid on any top 100 list for the next 3 years. What am I missing?

"Platek, 6-4, 190-pounds from Northfield (Mass.) Northfield Mount Hermon High School, has established himself as one of the top shooters in the 2017 class. He will rise from his No. 163 ranking in the 247Sports Composite"

Also, he is a Junior. Why would there be 3 more lists for him? I would think two, start of senior season and end of the year?

I read the article about this kid on Twitter yesterday. I think they said he was shooting 52% from three over the last several AAU games and was expected to rise very quickly in the ranks. They also said he was one of the best pure shooters.

Don't hold me to it because I read about recruits all the time but I think they said he was averaging 26 points per game. And he did say UNC was his dream school. I figure he'll commit soon because he was very excited about the offer.

Think Bronson Koieneg catch & shoot guy. Roy just offerred a guard team mate of Bamba, lets get some big offers out Roy.

There is a kid in Mass that is 6'11" & 270lbs from 2016 class, BC looks to be the most stiff competition for him at this point. Pretty much another Joel James type but may be worth a flyer.

Rakocevic committed to Southern Cal/USC back on April 11.

Any chance of an offer? Walk on?

I tend to think Roy is finished with '16. No buzz about any grad transfers or anything.

I meant that I looked at 3 current lists and didn't see him on any. Gathering now that he's a late bloomer, hopefully.

The guy I was referring to does not seem to be on our radar but I do not know what level a player he is either so maybe he just does not have what Roy is looking for.

As someone else just said, really beginning to look to me like Roy is for the most part done with 2016, maybe if the kid from Turkey shows interest and Roy believes we can get him thru admissions but that may be a problem.

There can always be a summer surprise, coaches change, maybe a recruit commits and another commit does not like his projected PT and decides to look around some more. I am just not betting on either of those to happen.

I think, unless injury hits our front court we will be fine for next season but we absolutely have to strike BIG MAN GOLD in 2017. The stage is set for just that, the NCAA clouds have parted as it applies to men's basketball, we have a double ton of PT to offer a couple of talented big men, and we have a great set up for what our back court should look like so big men will have plenty of help from back court shooting. It is the perfect situation for a Bamba or/and a Tillman or Carter or Knox or PJ Washington. WE can not get out of the 2017 class with anything less than 2 big men that can contribute early on and I would love 3 big men from this class.

Oh ok, I gotcha. Sorry, I thought I was missing something. Yea, he looks to be a late bloomer. He did mention that Roy raved about his work ethic.

He's getting a lot of love from IU and Tom Crean. He mentioned that he loves their uptempo style of play, so he should be giddy about Roy's system. The article I'm referring to was penned prior to our offer. He said he'd like to set up some visits and decide around September. He's known for being a good defender and an outstanding perimeter shooter. At 6-4, he has good size for a SG.

Sounds ideal for us.

Reminds me of the "stars" in rankings, kid is a good ball player but hasn't quite received the same notice as others.
Now we see some schools taking notice and extending offers and viola, we have a kid moving up the rankings.

Mass. not usually a hot bed of recruiting.

Yeah, the thing is the stars now days seem to be handed out to kids based more on athletism for the position they play. If you are not seen as an amazing athlete then those stars are hard to come by. Wes Miller for example got very few offers out of high school, began college at James Madison I think, transferred to us. Wes could shoot, Wes could shoot really well, he just wasn't seen as that freak athlete so he didn't get the invites to the better AAU programs and didn't get the stars but he had a skill that is greatly needed in the game. If you can shoot the ball from distance consistently you can play at a major D-1 program.

I am not a fan of the star rating system, all it does is set expectations for kids that those doing the expecting have not seen play. Take skal as one example, the bar of expectations was set so high for him but look more at the player and you realize he was really over hyped and the star system plays directly in to the hype machine. I think it causes fans to consider a kid a bust just because he didn't live up to his star rating in his first season. Look at Hicks, strong star rating but he just did not have a good freshman season, thank goodness he had the mental strength to work on his game and become a very good player at this level. Other side, take a JMM, way over ranked star wise and IMO just never seemed to develop as much as I would have expected.

Thanks '58, I forgot the geography for a bit...AND the Celtics are so dang good.....

Yeah David, the "expectations" that any number of people place on them is tough to live up to...

And as mike mentioned, patience Tar Heels, let's let things play out a bit more, I understand Roy (and staff) has been very busy.

Seems like a stretch of an offer to me. But we have guards for days over the next few years so whatever. It's not like we'll be depending on him to come in and make an impact in the first 2 years. If he can materialize into a Scott Wood type shooter, that would be awesome.

But please, let's get some offers out to some bigs - and preferably those ranked in the top 50. Top 20 would be even better.

Have offers out to Tillmon, Bamba, Carter and Washington. All top 30

Perfect. Now, once one of them accepts their offer, we can officially put to bed the notion that recruiting is down at UNC. If none accept, we'll have to wait until next year I guess.

Duke is favored for Bamba and Carter. Kentucky looks to be favored for Washington and Tilmon is split between us and Illinois. This is all coming from 24/7 sports so I don't know how reliable they are, but I really hope that now that men's basketball is looking it will avoid a major hit or postseason ban, the top guys will be more inclined towards us rather than Duke or UK.

24/7 is not a reliable source at all. It's literally bloggers and writers that make picks on the same amount of information as any fan with the internet has.

As far as your post is concerned, I can't imagine dook getting Bamba and Carter. Most Duke fans say it's one or the other. Doesn't mean we get him, but still. I think we land Tilmon IMO. Washington isn't a lock at all, but it's still early in the process. Bolden could have an effect on next year's class.

A class of Felton, Platek, Tilmon, another quality big, and maybe a PG, would be a successful class for us IMO.
