Bit of a snoozer type of game, out come never in doubt but the intensity was not nearly what it was vs UCLA. Brice was unstoppable, same for Hicks, when they presented themselves for the pass. Berry was very sharp, maybe played with the most intensity out there, but one of his back court mates may have matched that and I will discuss that in a sec. Really great to see Hicks finally get a good bit of court time and NOT be in foul trouble, kid has a knack for making some really hard shots, seems out of control at times but somehow the ball rolls in? He is beginning to show off a first step that is really lethal and I agree, someone mentioned they see some Hansbourgh traits in him.
3 guys I want to mention, first Theo, not his best night, got a little bit out of control but I love that his mistakes are usually mistakes of commission as opposed to omission. Don't forget, this kid didn't have an off season able to work on his shot or really improve his game, this season is for the most part a continuation of that freshman season. I do love those sets we have Theo and Justin in together, they really do work well with each other. Justins shooting is still off, it is because he is still rushing his jump shot, dial back the shots selection (on jump shots) and he will be fine.
Joel James, I felt like Joel played his best game this season last night, thou I could have done without the jumpers, didn't feel like he needed jump shots, just establish hard inside, receive the pass and use that HUGE frame. But the big fella ran hard and gave us as good as he has to give, I don't fuss when a kid gives that effort.
The guy I really want to talk about is Mr NO DEFENSE himself, you know, the guy I love to hate on, Nate Britt. As I have tried to share, I just call em like I see em and in Nate's case I see a lot I am not in love with far to often. BUT, NOT LAST NIGHT! yeah, Nate can hit a jump shot and I was glad to see him hit a couple of those but that isn't what drew my attention, of all things it was Nate on the defensive end that really drew my focus and the kid worked his tail off! Kudos to ya young man, kudos! Nate was like fly paper, face guarding his man, working thru screens, staying in front, his defender had to have nightmares of nate in his face last night, moved his feet, didn't turn his head, stayed ball/you/man! I thought by far his best game, of the season (I am talking all around game this season, not just what a stat sheet says, may have been the best I have seen him period. When I am tuff on Nate it is because he earns that, tonight he earned praise IMO and I want to make sure I fairly give him that just deserve!
