Arizona Forward Henri Veesaar Transferring to UNC

Wow, didnt expect Hubert to come through with this guy!!! He is long and at least on his highlights angry and active around the rim. Hubert has a piece to build on...gotta get one to get some.

I don’t mind the WVU kid either 6’6 guard who can stretch with 3s

It looks like we’re building like an SEC team would with length

So . . . Tommy LLoyd says he's a first round draft pick next year. AJ says Tommy knows what that looks like.

Maybe having someone that good will encourage Drake (or even Ian?) to return?

Seth
Ian or JPowell
DPowell
Wilson

I believe Veesaar shoots the 3 much better than did
I agree 100%

I actually think Kessler came in thinking 3ball first, and attacking the paint second. In contrast, Veesaar plays like an “angry dawg” around the rim but has a peekaboo 3ball when needed.

Veesaar is a beast! He would rather dunk on his mama than shoot 3s! 😝

Yes, I like the idea of getting more bigs from overseas as a project big that will stay for multiple years.

Definitely time to get a PG! I would not mind a PG that can play defense. Seth as a senior can be our safety valve if it doesn't work out.
I agree 100%

At least 1 more big (can be a project 7ft on the cheap)…otherwise we’re just 1 sprain ankle away from what we had this year.

PGs safety valve: I do like the idea of using 6’3 Seth filling that role if needed. PG would be his NBA path anyway so he shouldn’t have an issue. Same thing with 6’4 IJ if he sticks around.

Just being optimistic!

Where things stand as of now, maybe either or both Ian and Drake come back and maybe they don't. Maybe High and James Brown develop off season in to players that can give us 15-20mins of quality play, maybe they can't. Maybe our 2 freshman combos can come, in and provide us solid production at the 2 and back up minutes at the 1, maybe the don't. Maybe Seth can give us starter level PG play, maybe his jump shooting ramps up, maybe not. Maybe Veesaar can give us more than 25-30mins a game, maybe he does not turn an ankle or find some other injury or lot of foul trouble but maybe he doesn't.

To many maybes for me, it is the maybes that drive what I feel like we still need. Very clearly we need a starting PG but I think it has to be a starting PG that is a solid jump shooter. If I start Seth at the 2, which would be my plan, I need a solid jump shooting point, I can't have 2 weak jump shooters as my starting back court. I would be back channel talking to Marcus Burton's agent as well as Nigel Pack's. A interesting guy could be the Yale PG, think his name is Lee, good size, solid jump shooter, concerned about the level of comp in the Ivey but I think worth a hard look at least.

Next, I want Catchings, really cool blended talent there, 6'6" when he committed as a freshman last season, grew to 6'9" yet retained most of his 6'6" wing skill, I consider him a 3/4 guy with Wilson being more a 4/3, well covered at the 3 if Drake is not back. To make sure we have the real size inside, I think we need 1 more big man, Catchings is long but not big, does not have to be a high dollar A list center, maybe a guy like Efton Reid, at least size wise to battle with Lubin for the back up 5 role. Thinking I would have Veesaar getting as much time at the 4 as the 5 and he may fit better as a 4.

So what if Drake want's to come back, I would use him more at the 2, I think that is his natural NBA position and the position I think the NBA wants to see him play in college, his jump shooting would have to really step up to being much more solid to become that 3 & D guy the NBA likes.

Thoughts on a couple guys crossing my mind as I have my Saturday morning coffee...

Isivic -the big C from Arky. Seems a bit redundant with Veesaar but you raise some good points about needing another big. Solid big rotation allows Wilson to dabble at the 3 should we decide to go HUGE!

RJ Luis -6'7 scorer from St. Johns. Move Seth to the 1 or super sub if we uncover a legit PG.

Thoughts?

Isivic would be absolutely PERFECT in my opinion, would LOVE to see him added. Luis, not so much in my view, others will likely disagree, I prefer Catchings as a 3/4 type of guy, have Wilson who I think is a 4/3 guy and JPowell as a 3 & D guy. Ivisic gives me that big body to play physical. Imagine a rotation of Isivic at the 5, Veesaar at the 4, Wilson at the 3, Drake at the 2, with Seth at the point.

That line up gets me tingly. While we are dreaming though, I'd prefer a legit PG who can shoot/MAKE 3's with Seth at the 2 (I'm preparing myself for Drake to go to the league).

BACK CHANNEL ME A POINT GUARD!!😆🤣

I like the idea of another 7 ft, and another Euro at that. However, I do think the luxury of having Veesaar is allowing our grassroots kids to develop at a reasonable pace. Brown has some really raw qualities and now he has the opportunity to step in and be that backup center.

As far as the backcourt, I think we need to begin moving on a plan of not having Ian back. Go get Dorn and spread the floor. Dook found great success in using Proctor in this same way we’re talking about Seth, here. Seth doesn’t have to shoot the piss out of the ball or even need to be an excellent PG; just good enough to bring the ball up the floor to trigger the offense and be a threat from deep.

Michigan looked good not just with two 7 footers but playing them together most games anywhere from 15-20 minutes. Never turn down height (Leonhard Hamilton always practiced that one) or 3 point shooting ability.
