Assistant Coach McGrath

You guys know why Tru started this thread, right? Just read the comments below the tweets to find out. Don't feed the trolls.

Archer I haven't read the comments myself. I posted it because I didn't see it posted and I like it. Even though it's a shot at Duke by UNC, I love it and I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more attention. See this is what we call FUN ribbing. Cal tweeting what he did vs Duke? Loved it! Duke tweeting about the fish after Bolden? Loved it! Don't like that they deleted it. It's not nasty stuff it's not personal it's not over the line. It's what competition and college ball should be or atleast a part of it. Now that you said something about comments I'm going to go read it lol

Ok I just read the comments, I originally got the tweets from a blog not the tweets themselves. Meh nothing to troll about to be honest

Didn't read the comments. Riiiiiiiiight. I was born at night but it wasn't last night.

Archer I really didn't read the comments until you mentioned it. I have no reason to lie about that sir. I'm 39 years old with a family. I originally got the tweets from a blog

Well then, you are a unique dook fan indeed, one that can post disparaging remarks about dook on a UNC board and think it's funny. My hat's off to you.

Who gives a shit about regular season titles , hell dook won two natty's during that time frame ! And they are sitting pretty with a chance to do it again next yr. Nobody cares about the regular season , it's just a way to get to the big Dance.

I have to reluctantly agree. In terms of titles, Duke's got us 2-0 this decade and have out-recruited us. Which is why 2017 is an important year. And I think this makes McGrath look rather petty. Not a good look for us.

is much bs has been said about UNC by certain coaches and asst coaches and recruits have believed them ..im sick of it ..... fire away CB .. Go Heels !!

It's the nature of this business. Of course they'll be saying bad shit about us, just as we do about them. The difference is that they've had the ammo the past three years. Not so much anymore though thank the lord.

Recruits don't care about regular season titles, they care about national championships and the NBA. And right now, McGrath doesn't have a leg to stand on firing at Duke like that. That's for fans to do, not coaches. You don't attract with flies with vinegar.

"reluctantly agree"...LMAO....

Who cares. Just C.B getting coaches back. A reminder to the kids who've forgotten, we got a pretty darn good head coach.

I'm just glad to see SOMEBODY standing up for Ole' Roy instead of tearing him down.
Who was tearing him down? I missed that part. I'll admit I did not read all the tweets since it looked like a pissing contest between him and a bunch of dookies.

I have no problem with what coach said and I'm a stone cold Dukie. Let's get it on!

Tbqh, I don't think this is something worth bragging about. I'm pretty sure 99% of College Basketball fans would take 0 Regular season championships and 2 NC over (4?) Regular Season Championships and 0 NC.

I don't mind anyone firing off some rounds of trash talk every now and then. But i don't think this is something that would do much damage to anyone. If anything, it makes us look worse.

Precisely. If we had won maybe I wouldn't be as concerned. But for now, McGrath needs to shut his yap.

You been sleepin? On a LOOONNGG trip? In the Hospital or what?

Since the NI/Tx loss it's been a constant beat down of Ole' Roy. That was just on THIS board alone not to mention many others and the media (mostly gotthief).

From what I can tell that isnt a real big problem here. Some folks do criticize him for sure, but it's only a small minority who actually cross the line. Unfortunately the ones who criticize tastefully get lumped into the overall "Roy haters club."

Personally I love Roy. I wouldn't trade him for another coach in the world right now. Not for our brand. I do get, uhm, "heated" at him sometimes during the games, but I'd never take that to a message board. Frankly, there are a few people here that should attempt to refrain from posting during games.

Understood. I got rather mad at Dean several times too. Part of being a fan but my goodness, no need in making every thought you ever had public is there? :)

That was very early in the season and both were games we could and should have won. Excluding the games like Notre Dame or Duke where we also had the chance to put them away, there wasn't much to "beat down" after that. Roy and Co. did exceptionally well, which is what got us to the National Championship game.

Anything else was probably flashbacks of our down seasons from the previous 3 years.

I feel that UNC/Duke is shaping up like UNC/UVA last season. There will be a tight fight 1/2 in the ACC with both UNC/Duke getting #1 seeds. Duke has the #1 recruiting class and there is nothing we can do about it. We will probably split the two regular season games. Most likely we will not see them again until the Final Four. The Heels need to beat Kentucky in Vegas and I predict that will happen. The Heels also need to win the Maui tournament and smoke the pre-season nonconference schedule. Thus, go into the conference schedule will no more than one loss. It's UNC that has had 3 seasons out of "contender" status and Duke took advantage of this. UNC is now a contender for the NCAA crown in back to back seasons with all eyes on 2017/2018 classes to see if we continue.

Duke has not dropped off over the past few years. The BIG news is that the Heels "are back" and that's were the Duke and other teams better be worried about.

That why Simmons picked LSU?

Every recruit is not a Ben Simmons...

EDIT: And as much as some here love talking about migrating away from players with "Handlers" or "Academic trouble", I would think the guy with the borderline ineligible GPA who clearly did not want to be in College would not be a great example for the point you're making.

Good point. Simmons didn't go to LSU due to regular season conference or national championships. He went because it was a fast track to the NBA in which he didn't have to put forth much effort in class (and even became ineligible at LSU - a joke of an academic institution). But to cb34's point, Regular Season Conference Championships might help entice a recruit ranked 40-100 to come to UNC. The top 10 recruits are going where they're going due to national championships and a fast track to the NBA. If we had won the last game of the season, we'd have the former, but we didn't. With Roy's coaching philosophy/style the latter is in question with some of the recruits as well. While I think a lot of us acknowledge that the right player can be OAD from UNC - many recruits don't want to take the chance, and will opt with somewhere (like LSU) that will play them a ton in order to showcase their skills or a Duke/UK (which have proven history of being friendly to the OAD mindset).

Yep. Simmons is the best example of why the NBA/College rule needs to change, if anything.

As far as the Roy's coaching philosophy/style goes:

The idea sounds perfect on paper. Get a Top ranked OAD guy(s) with a mix of 3-4 year guys. If we have a bad recruiting class, those 3-4 year guys would hopefully have developed into a Brice or Paige type player. Sounds great! The problem is that we haven't executed it very well. Yes, the scandal had its hand in that problem, but it's also well known that Roy has been somewhat hesitant about his acceptance of the way of the OAD, which hasn't helped as much either.

UNC hasn't had any OADs because they ended up committing elsewhere. Recruits tend to cite they commit elsewhere because UNC hasn't had any successful OADs. It's a completely cyclical issue that it seems some recruits don't seem to understand can be easily dispelled

I don't believe we have to become a 1 year factory to win titles. In fact, there have only been 2 teams that had a Freshman heavy lineup that won a title since our last one. But I do think we're going to need someone to take that chance to dispel the idea that UNC can't produce OADs before we start getting the best recruiting classes year in and year out.

McGrath needs to shut is yap? Lol. A lot of sensitive Sally's posting in this thread. Again, it was a reminder to some kids that we have a great coach on our side. I have 0 issues with him putting up his accolades. Tell the kids last year that winning the regular season ACC title, and ACC tourney meant nothing. Of course I'd take nattys over conference titles, but to say it doesn't matter is just a fans ignorant point of view.

Yeah off topic but Simmons also chose LSU cause they conveniently gave his godfather, David Patrick a job just a few months before he committed.

Sounds like an offer he couldn't refuse . .
