says "Maybe the school isn’t committed quite like some of the top programs in the league." I guess i'd say the fans have a committment problem, or maybe the gameday atmosphere (parking, tailgating, whatever) are a drag on the program, but otherwise that indoor facility is great, we're spending money on new lockers, more staff for Mack, etc.

Also having Maryland higher seems weird. But otherwise many of the picks seem okay.

I don't see how anyone could spend a Saturday in Kenan and not come away thinking that fans are uncommitted. Most "fans" sit quietly on their hands for the entire game. They'll maybe stand up for the occasional third down, its kinda sad. Meanwhile at schools like Clemson, every person in the stadium is standing and making noise for almost the entire game.

Tailgating is also pretty pathetic in CH. Unless you like drinking beer in a parking garage.

These things make the program look uncommitted to football.

It’s because UNC fans/alumni are wayyy too sophisticated to partake in such heathenry like cheering for a football team. I mean, who does that?

Yeah that's definitely part of the problem.

I think it starts with the students though. We need a student section that is full of passionate (and slightly intoxicated) students that will get loud.

I think they should close down Franklin Street and just have a giant pregame party every Saturday. Let people buy drinks and food from the local businesses and then enjoy them outside with fellow fans. It's not quite tailgating, but pretty darn close.

The quiet fans at football games is not something new. It's been a problem for decades. It's as if a bunch of UNC blue hairs decided back in leather helmet days that UNC football was like opera: to be enjoyed with oohs and aahs that would not disturb the performers.

That's what I've always heard. Something needs to change. Carolina football needs a culture shock.

When Mack was winning and when Butch was there, fans were engaged. UNC fans aren't going to get excited for a shitty product though. Unfortunately, UNC has put a shitty product on the field since the 80's with a few exceptions.

Boom! That’s exactly it. I’m not an alum, and never had season tix, but I went to quite a few games during Mack’s first tenure. After he left, and the pathetic coaching hires that followed destroyed the solid program he built, I wasn’t about to pay to go see the 30 point beat downs.

I’m ready for the re-Mack Attack, and plan to start getting back to Keenan this fall.

Everything starts and stops with the product on the field. I recognize our stadium and parking situation isn’t fan friendly for tailgating, that’s a real issue that must be fixed in a big way. All that to say, you aren’t going to keep fans in the stands and with any sense of commitment if you can’t consistently put a good, not even great product on the field. We have NOT done that at all really. A few good years here and there, and then back to mediocrity or worse.

I wouldn’t really disagree with anyone here, but if you look at a program like clemson, they were packing their stadium long before they got good. UGA, UF, and TN will all have packed stadiums even during a down year. Wins and losses matter, but so does culture.

Is that really the case though or is it perception? I'd be willing to bet that their official attendance numbers were down when they were just average. They probably have a bigger base when they aren't that good, but I doubt it was always packed.

That’s entirely possible. It would be interesting to do a statistical analysis and figure out how dependent attendance is on record, across different schools. Would be easy to do if we had access to attendance numbers

Yeah, but remember math isn't always accurate and can be politicized.
