Austin Nichols gone...

WOW . . oh well.

Gotta give Coach Bennett credit for what was likely a tough decision.

Predictions for UVA's season had Nichols as a vital component. I wonder how that will play out...

There were problems (off the court) when the kid was at memphis, was frankly surprised when he ended up at UVa because Bennett is a no nonsense type of guy. But when he ended up at UVa I figured maybe the kid decided to grow up and focus on his future more than the party. Had he in fact done that UVa was a great place for him and bennet was the kind of strong coach he needed, guess he just was not ready to grow up.

This really screws UVa's front court, he was to be their anchor and big time inside producer and now with him out a huge hole is created. I think it is as big a blow to that team as if we were to wake up this morning to hear that Joel berry was dismissed from our team, we would do what ever we could to fill the void but the hole is just to big to be filled.

Wow!

Does that knock them out of the top tier in the ACC?

We keep thinking that Bennett will have trouble after he loses this player or that player, but he still cranks out contenders. Can he do it again with the talent he has left?

WW, IDK, it is gonna be really hard, I would suggest their being top tier after losing all they did from last season was already going to be hard enough but after this hard to see how he can.

More like losing Justin, I think, but yeah, this has to be a blow.

Looking at their roster, that leaves them lightly used soph Jack Salt and 2 freshman (Diakite and Huff) as the only guys on the team taller than 6'7. That's enough big men if they are good, ready, and stay healthy, but that remains to be seen. Salt started both games but only played starter minutes in 1. Diakite has only played in 1 game (14 min) and Huff hasn't played at all.

The good news for Bennett is that he has 10 days before they face anybody good.

Heard a UVA fan say it was alcohol related.

And from Bennett:
“It’s a privilege to be a part of this program and Austin has lost that privilege,” Bennett said. “We have standards for our student-athletes and when those standards aren’t met, there are consequences and this is the unfortunate consequence.”

Hope this becomes an eye opener for the young man. He is young enough to salvage both his life and potential basketball career, but he does need to start now.

If I'm old Roy I'm scheduling a meeting with him and his family to have a lengthy talk about getting the kid some help on and off the basketball court. We're in big need for a good power forward for next season and this kid fits the bill. Like I said I wouldn't just offer the kid a scholarship off the bat but I'm all for a meeting and a conversation. Roy has a history with this kid by recruiting him in high school.

Based on his track record, I bet he's done with College. And with the strict rules of jumping between schools in the same conference as well as Roy not wanting to deal with the players that provide headaches, I imagine this isn't really an option for us.

Plus, he wouldn't even be available until 2018-19 season because he'd have to sit out.

My guess is he shoots for the D-League. Someone in the league will take a chance on him.

Couldn't disagree with this more. We neither want him, nor need him. Would be nothing but a distraction.

Kudos to you BTW Dave. If my memory serves me correct you were the one that warned against this kid when he came available. I hate for him truly, but I'm also glad its not our drama.

Yep. Many times there are reasons kids transfer besides the obvious. Roy vets 'em out.

One more example of Roy's extreme attention to detail! Seldom have we seen Roy leave a recruit alone and it turn out to be a mistake.
