From the article Rivers said:
"I got offended [this week, in the wake of the ugly situation with the Rockets] when people started talking about my character. Judge me all you want as a player. Some people think I'm a great player, some people don't. That's fine. Numbers don't ever lie. I know what I'm doing and I know what this team is doing.

"I was the No. 1 player in high school. I was a lottery player at Duke. I was player of the year in the ACC as a freshman. People just forget about these things, like I don't deserve to be in the league. People are like, 'He was a bust! He was a bust!' No, I wasn't a bust. I just didn't play as well as a lottery pick should. I don't need any excuses. It is what it is. Sometimes things take time."

Anybody want to tell him that Tyler Zeller was ACC POY that year.

He was a bust! Just another dookie bum!!!
Aren't you paying attention? He's not a bust. I know, because I just read him saying he isn't. :p I'm sure his Dad would think he was one of the best guards in the league, even if he wasn't related to him.

I generally think the "Duke player = douche" stereotype is silly and overblown.

But I really appreciate guys like Rivers and Allen who fully live up to it.

It's a stereotype that had an element of truth to it for awhile. But are guys like Jabari Parker, Jahlil Okafor, Brandon Ingram or Harry Giles really that bad? Other that they are in the wrong shade of blue, not really. I mean this year, Grayson Allen is really the only guy that falls into that category.

Can Harry Giles really be considered in the conversation? I don't think we can consider the players that got out of Dodge ASAP. There may have been a reason for that.

Hey, Rivers only suited up what, 16 times for them but he's still a douche.
I think it's part of the recruiting criteria... they must either have OAD talent or the ability to cry, floor-slap, flop, head-whip, man-hug.

Point taken, but you forget the most important lesson.... tripping.

Can't we go ahead and add Joey Baker?

ALL dookies are douches until proven innocent.

The fact some haven't made it to full douchiness yet is irrelevant. Some have left before their douchiness had time to fully come out. Some made it out of the douche arena without having it boil up to the top, but most of those were old guys who either played before K or got out before his assholeness had fully developed (Bilas, for example).

The fact remains that once you put on that gosh awful puke blue jersey, you also put on your douche hat. In Rivers' case, I think he had his from the time he was born and, even though he left before it surfaced at dook, there was never any possibility of it not coming out for the world to see.

I got the same number of votes for ACC POY that he did (ZERO) so I guess I am going to change my business card to former ACC POY!

Whiny little beyotch saying whiny little beyotch things!
Maybe if Doc (who I respect a great deal as a coach, but not at all as a father!) had taken part in the raising of his son, the boy might have some idea how to act like a man!

I'm so happy to be a Tar Heel so I never have to defend punks like this! It has to leave a nasty taste in your mouth!

Really now, that’s ridiculous. A kid going to dook doesn’t make them a douche bag just like a kid going to Carolina doesn’t make them a saint.

As a Carolina fan, I definitely have disliked or hated many dook players I thought were cocky or arrogant. Rivers certainly fits that profile. But to say anyone who goes there is automatically a douche is just being a blowhard.

You know what they say about opinions. To each his own, I guess.

I have watched UNC basketball since Phil ran the show. There once was a time when I would pull for all ACC teams over the rest. Not anymore. Dook and moo are two I would never pull for to win anything. I once actually admired dook and liked several of their players. That stopped many years ago when their attitude on and off the court started going south. It is my opinion that K recruits players with such attitudes and encourages the behavior that has garnered them the reputation of being pricks. As far as I am concerned, until a dook player proves otherwise, I am going to assume they have this attitude. If you choose not to, that is fine by me. That is your prerogative. Likewise, I choose not to disparage you or anyone else for how you view other teams or their players, but you chose to judge me for my opinions. So be it. Frankly, I could care less. Says more about you than it does me. But, that, too, is my opinion.

It means I can separate the person from the program. I can hope no dookie ever hits another shot, but not hate them as people. Which again, depends on who they are. Austin Rivers is an asshole and so is Grayson Allen. But you’re going to tell me Marvin Bagley, Wendell Carter or Gary Trent are automatically douches until proven otherwise? That’s a very backwards way of thinking about people.

You can hate dook and want to crush them without assuming the worst about their off court character.

U younguns didnt have to deal with the doucheyest dook douche team of all time. (On the court)

Gminski
Spanarkel
Dennard
Banks

Arguably 4 of the top 10 dook whiney assed douches all time and all on the same team! God i hated those nancies. Even laettner/hurley take a back seat to those ass wipes. Dennard is my most hated all time.

Jesus what year was that? I’ve never even heard of those guys.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Rivers and K kind of clashed because Rivers was a ball hog.

His jumper was in question while at Puke, and he was just so so. Got nothing against ole boy, but Chris Paul called his contract out while with Clippers and just like while at Puke, he is having a average at best season this year, and now he wants to talk. Please!

Bust, umm. Number 1 high school player years and years ago. Just started to get significant player time this year, maybe you can call last year also. No all star game insight ever! Bust? Umm, I never thought much of him, but according to his own account of himself I guess he is.

I think I understand where the disconnect is now.

BTW - I never said I "hate" anyone. I also never said the individuals were douches, just that I am going to assume they are until they prove me wrong. Those guys may never do anything close to Trippy McWhiplash or Austin CrymeaRivers. If they don't, I doubt I will ever give them another thought. If they do, then I will say I was right in my assumptions. I also know the problem with "assuming" things about people. In the case of dook, I will take my chances.

Austin Rivers is not a bad NBA player. However, he just have role player talent, and he just was given an undeserving chance because of his dad. He played a lot of mins and got the chance to improved. Mins he probably didn't had to earn like other players. Yes he still has a bad attitude. Doc is going to get fired as GM and/or coach for being loyal to his son one day.

Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason.

Parker and Giles, not really. But Okafor is a supreme douche. You must not have seen the video where’s he’s acting like a tough guy in the streets and ends up fighting someone half his size. And Ingram looks like a douche but maybe he’s not. But because he looks like one and went to duke, the smart money is on him being a douche.
