Aren't they still paying for Paul Hewitt's buyout?
Correct. Believe one more year. Thanks RH.
I read on the Ga Tech board that Hewitt's buyout runs through 2019 at about 900 grand per year?

The Yellowjackets really have NO other option at the moment but to bring BG back next season because he too has a buyout in his contract, best I remember.....

Hard to believe that a school like Georgia Tech could make so many bonehead decisions thru the years....Guess that's why the former AD bolted for the Clemson AD job before all this became public?

Plus, Marshall strikes me as too honest for that cheat factory. If he takes it my opinion of him will drop considerably.
It is a step down, basketball at Alabama is something to pass time between football season and spring football practice. If Marshall is as happy as he claims to be at Witchita, he should stay. The win against Ku will turn the heads of some of the better players in Kansas witchitas way.

A step down? LOL.

You really don't want him in the SEC.

I guess if you go strictly on final fours made, then:

Texas > Wichita State > Alabama as far as basketball programs.

Texas, much like in football, is thought of more for the "potential" and "should always be great". But are they as great as their fans / alumni think and the misinformed who only read bullet points? No.

Wichita State has a very good basketball program. Well funded. One of the better mid major conferences. Very good history.

Alabama. Kentucky's main rival (small argument from the Vols being #2) during CM and Wimp's time there. Never a final four. Couple of regional finals. Best teams beaten by Indiana in 76, Providence in 87 and Loyola Marymount in 90. Most similar comp in college sports is UNC football. See: perennial wannabe.

Personally I wouldn't leave Wichita for either Texas (will never get over the hump) or Alabama (will never get over the hump).
But that's just my opinion.

A poster above mentioned Marshall as a possibility to take over when Roy hangs it up. I just don't see it. Now he is a winner and would do well at a school like UNC. But just don't think he is the right match from a personality standpoint. An like I said previously, there is something in the background that is uncertain about this guy. USC, nor Clemson, would even interview him. So someone in SC knows something as neither of those schools can really afford to be very picky about luring a basketball coach.

Well any Auburn fan or backer calling another school a cheat factory is practicing in the highest form of ignorance

This.

I'm not even a Tar Heel fan, far from it in fact.... but even I know that UNC will land a big coach who is more of a 'statesman' type.... In order to be a winner on Tobacco Road, you have to be a politician and know how to maneuver the media, have thick skin, get along with other coaches, and get along with ADs.

Marshall strikes me as a guy who would win, but piss off a lot of people,

My guess is that Marshall would tell Wuffies and all of MooU and the lousy Raleigh paper where to go and how quickly.

I would find that a breath of fresh air.

Not saying his cockiness, and ticking some folks off, wouldn't be a breath of fresh air. In fact I would find it enjoyable. But as an above poster said, he doesn't exactly fit the mold of the buttoned down, political, type coach that I think the brass at UNC would want.
