with all due respect to the fine burgers in Va and SC, this is for NC only.

Gonna rank all nominees on the following:
-food quality
-beer list
-ambiance
-location
-quality of accoutrements
-menu variety (burger combos, other offerings)

Automatic qualifiers in no particular order:
- Hops, Greensboro
- Al's, Chapel Hill
- Johnson's, Siler City
- Art's, Kill Devil Hills

Any other nominees?

Can't help with any nominations. The only place in NC that I've had a burger is Andy's . . . when in my home state, it's seafood or eastern barbecue . .

told ya it was good...can't recall from when i grew up, but art's is ridiculous and is leading all-time for me.

and hey, if you can eat breakfast there, do it.

Still taking nominations

How many of you have had Al's or Johnson's?

Capital Grille in Charlotte is supposed to be fantastic but I've never been.

There's little hole in the wall called Fenwick's that has some of the best burgers and chicken breast sandwiches you can find.

When it comes to burgers, I haven't found any that topped the place I grew up eating burgers in Danville, VA, so it's hard for me to say. I like Zack's in Charlotte, as the Zack's Special is pretty damn good, but it doesn't beat the nostalgia of what I grew up on.
