Alright OOTB concert goers. What's the best concert you've ever been to? Mine would be the summer sanitarium tour featuring Metallica, korn, kid rock, system of a down and powerman 5000.

Couldn't even begin to pick one, but here are a few:

All of the Dead Shows that weren't at football stadiums
Final Jerry Garcia Band show- Hampton 1993
Dave Matthews in fraternity house basements-1990-93
Phish - Wolf Trap 1993
Widespread Panic- Polo Fields, Athens 1991
Indecision in Asheville this year
Tedeschi Trucks Band and Los Lobos in Cary this year

Same, I've been to way too many.

@tarheel0910 a good one I went to that would interest you is Avenged Sevenfold and Coheed & Cambria double-headlined a show at Lakewood in ~2007. I was in the pit for that one. Great show.

My most recent concert was Turnpike Troubadours at a tiny venue in Tuscaloosa called Druid City Music Hall back in October. The Troubadours always put on a phenomenal show.

I've not been to nearly as many concerts as some of youse guys... maybe 50. As a Stones fan, seeing them in '94 was great for the nostalgia. Likewise, the Kiss reunion tour in '97 at the Dean Dome was fun as hell. DMB and Buffet shows are always a party too.

But the one that still stands out to me as one of the best concerts I've been to is John Mellencamp, back in the late 80's. He really connects with the audience and was a hell of a performer, believe it or not.

Oh yeah! I saw him on that tour too! That show did kick ass!!!!

Pearl Jam, the one I had the best tickets for we were right up close and they played All Along the Watchtower in the encore, 2013 I think.

The Dead circa 2005 with guest Branford Marsalis, happens they also played Watchtower.

My Morning Jacket in about 07 at a cool venue in Charleston called The Plex, in a converted movie theater.

Saw him in the mid ninties. He really does put on a good show.

Saw my favorite band, the Allman Brothers, four times, once with the Dead. They were great every time.

Saw the Eagles three times, the first time with Carlos Santana in '72. They were consistently great.

Saw Pink Floyd 3 times, again great every time.

But the best/wildest had to be the first California Jam in '74 that I attended after boot camp. Held at Ontario Motor Speedway with 250,000 tickets sold, one unbelievable mass of humanity. Bands included:

the Eagles
Earth, Wind, and Fire
Black Sabbath
Rare Earth
Black Oak Arkansas
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer
Seals and Croft
Deep Purple

ELP played last and Keith Emerson played a grand piano spinning end over end suspended in the air. To this day, I still can't believe it. It was probably the mother of all concerts, save Woodstock.

You're showing your age with that post. ;) I would have loved to have been there though.

I've seen a lot of great groups, who, stones, dead, zz top, van halen, eagles, doobie bros, kiss, but the best performance BY FAR was bruce springsteen. And i dont even like his music that much. But he played for four hours with no opening act and dude was slaying it. Never seen so much energy and emotion. He was out in the audience, soaked with sweat, and this was thst shit hole gboro auditorium and it didnt sell out.

Four hours is crazy. I went to see Billy Joel once and he played for a little over two hours. Also saw Kid Rock do a two and a half hour show. That one was pretty good because he brought out Rev Run and they did around five Run DMC songs. You are lucky to get an hour out of bands these days.

I went to the JT/Jay-Z show when they came to Fenway a few years ago. I got a free ticket from a girl I was "seeing". I'm not really a huge fan of either of their music - but they both perform very well live, and their music works well together.

I see Zac Brown Band every year they come to Fenway and it's always a good time.

Red Hot Chili Peppers on their Stadium Arcadium tour.

I went to the Boston Strong concert they put together the month after the Marathon Bombing, which was awesome both because of who they got to play there, as well as just the overall unity of the crowd (sort of like the unity that was felt after 9/11 but on a much smaller scale): Aerosmith, Dropkick Murphys, New Kids on the Block, Jason Aldean, Jimmy Buffett, James Taylor, Boston, and a few comedians.

This is too difficult. I;m always envious of you older Boomers that got to see the original Allman Brothers, or the Stones with Mick Taylor, or the occasional lucky person who saw Hendrix or Cream. I can empathize a little by seeing Stevie Ray Vaughan at Cumberland County Memorial Auditorium.

Another one is always in my memory... George Thorogood & The Destroyers at the Raleigh Civic Center in 1986. A buddy and I were seniors in high school. We were actually sober at the show, which is why I think it stood out. I was right at George's feet, the edge of the stage in my chest. Every song was awesome. And, I could watch him play. After the show ended, they walked off, the lights came on, and I saw he left his brass guitar slide on the floor of the stage. My buddy gave me a boost, and I ran over to grab it, ran back and jumped off and sprained my ankle and we tore-ass outta there. I still have the slide!

Here's a clip from the same tour:

Oh man that's tough.

Seeing the Allman Brothers play their final festival set at Lockn a few years ago was truly incredible and a very emotional experience.

Dead and Co. at Charlotte this past year was freakin' awesome. So was ATL in 2015. The Dead + John Mayer (listen to the dude's blues stuff if you're a hater) = awesomeness.

DMB puts on one of the best live shows you'll ever see. They just need to start making Boyd practice again because his violin playing has been WAY off for the past few years.

Tedeschi Trucks Band is up there for sure too

Seen over three hundred. Among the best...

Stones in Raleigh in 1964
Hendrix in Raleigh in 1968 or 69.
Peter Frampton, J Geils, Humble Pie, 1974 in Greensboro
Springsteen in 1974 in DC
August Jam at Charlotte Motor Speedway in August 1974 featuring the Allman Brothers, ELP, Marshall Tucker Band, Foghat and others
Springsteen in Kenan on the Rising tour
Hendrix opening for the Monkees in Winston-Salem in 1967

Lucky muther!

Unfortunately, never got to see Led Zepelin, Hendrix, or The Who. Did see Jethro Tull, the Stones, and Credence twice each. Also saw Cream, the Jeff Beck Band, the Winter Bros and White Trash, Alvin Lee and Ten Years After, the Marshall Tucker Band, Yes, Traffic, and Eric Clapton(6 times). Also saw Doc Watson too many times to remember.

In all, I went to over 120 concerts and had almost all the ticket stubs until a girlfriend tossed them when we were moving. We broke up shortly thereafter. Coincidence? Probably not. I was royally PO'd.

ETA: the three groups I most to see now are the Tedeschi Trucks Band(love slide guitar), Government Mule, and Alison Krauss and Union Station.

I'm amazed and envious of the number of concerts and bands that most of you have been able to see. The ones I have been to are probably unfamiliar to most of you. I apologize if my list bores you.

I've only been to a very few concerts in my lifetime so I'll list them all as my favorites. While I was at Carolina in the seventies I saw Roberta Flack, Gordon Lightfoot and the Kinks. During the early eighties at nightclubs in Charlotte I saw The Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose and Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs. On a side note, Maurice Williams originally recorded the song "Stay" and Jackson Browne, who also recorded the song, was performing that same night at the old Charlotte Coliseum. He and his band stopped by the club after their event and the two bands performed the song together for us. In the last six months I've seen Delta Rae and America/Christopher Cross in Charlotte's McGlohon Theatre, and @UNC71-00 I saw Tedeschi-Trucks, Los Lobos and The North Mississippi All-Stars in Cary, too.

Finally, for anyone familiar with the bluegrass scene, there's a very small coffee/sandwich shop that also serves alcohol in the evenings just a few doors down from my office here in town. To prepare for their latest tour, Darin and Brooke Aldridge performed there numerous times free of charge

I wanted to add a few I thought of since I saw this poasted on the board.

P-Funk at Hampden-Sydney gymnasium in 1996.
Dylan and Willie together at the minor league ballpark in Charleston, SC in 2004.
Yonder at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC in 2006.
Robert Earl Keen on a stage set up in an intersection in the streets in Bristol VA/TN in 2012.

I like different venues. That plays a really big part in my concert experience. I don't even bother trying to go to a coliseum to see a band. That just seems so lame. The venue is a big deal to me. It's not always about sound either. P-Funk sounded like shit in that gymnasium. But I stood 10-15 feet from George Clinton (and caught a drumstick when it was thrown out into the crowd). That's pretty cool. And of course, I love good outdoor venues. In fact, these days, that's really the only way I'll see live music.

I agree. I'll go see a band in a coliseum or stadium because that's usually the only thing the big name bands play in, but I love the smaller venues. My favorite place to see a concert is the house of blues in myrtle beach. The Masquerade in Atlanta is a good one too. It's a complete shit hole, but the atmosphere is great. I'm sure @TarHeelNation11 can back me up on that one.
