Alright OOTB concert goers. What's the best concert you've ever been to? Mine would be the summer sanitarium tour featuring Metallica, korn, kid rock, system of a down and powerman 5000.
Same, I've been to way too many.Couldn't even begin to pick one.
Couldn't even begin to pick one.
I would estimate that I've seen around 200 bands, but that one has always stuck out to me. I'm a huge Metallica fan and that was the first time I saw them. Picking my favorite performance would be impossible for me though.Same, I've been to way too many.
How many tons of weed were at that show?Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson.
Dave Matthews band always puts on a good show. I consider them a "jam band" and those types of bands always put on a good live show.Dave Matthews in fraternity house basements-1990-93

Oh yeah! I saw him on that tour too! That show did kick ass!!!!I've not been to nearly as many concerts as some of youse guys... maybe 50. As a Stones fan, seeing them in '94 was great for the nostalgia. Likewise, the Kiss reunion tour in '97 at the Dean Dome was fun as hell. DMB and Buffet shows are always a party too.
But the one that still stands out to me as one of the best concerts I've been to is John Mellencamp, back in the late 80's. He really connects with the audience and was a hell of a performer, believe it or not.
I wasn't there but I got the album!Paul McCartney and Wings Over America at the Capital Centre on May 16, 1976 . .
Here's the setlist for that awesome concert . .

I've always wanted to see Ozzy solo, but haven't had the chance. I did see him on the Black Sabbath reunion tour though.ozzy/alice n chains/sepultura at clemson
You're showing your age with that post. I would have loved to have been there though.Saw my favorite band, the Allman Brothers, four times, once with the Dead. They were great every time.
Saw the Eagles three times, the first time with Carlos Santana in '72. They were consistently great.
Saw Pink Floyd 3 times, again great every time.
But the best/wildest had to be the first California Jam in '74 that I attended after boot camp. Held at Ontario Motor Speedway with 250,000 tickets sold, one unbelievable mass of humanity. Bands included:
the Eagles
Earth, Wind, and Fire
Black Sabbath
Rare Earth
Black Oak Arkansas
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer
Seals and Croft
Deep Purple
ELP played last and Keith Emerson played a grand piano spinning end over end suspended in the air. To this day, I still can't believe it. It was probably the mother of all concerts, save Woodstock.
So you act like you're a big time UNC donor at a football game?I never know what to do at concerts. Everyone is drunk as crap singing, dancing and falling over everywhere, and I'm just sitting there like WTF is all this noise.
LOLLL zingSo you act like you're a big time UNC donor at a football game?
You gonna list the great ones..?I've seen a lot of great groups, who, stones, dead, zz top, van halen, eagles, doobie bros, kiss
Four hours is crazy. I went to see Billy Joel once and he played for a little over two hours. Also saw Kid Rock do a two and a half hour show. That one was pretty good because he brought out Rev Run and they did around five Run DMC songs. You are lucky to get an hour out of bands these days.I've seen a lot of great groups, who, stones, dead, zz top, van halen, eagles, doobie bros, kiss, but the best performance BY FAR was bruce springsteen. And i dont even like his music that much. But he played for four hours with no opening act and dude was slaying it. Never seen so much energy and emotion. He was out in the audience, soaked with sweat, and this was thst shit hole gboro auditorium and it didnt sell out.
now THAT is quite a diverse line-up...Top 3 in no particular order:
GWAR at the Music Farm in Charleston, SC in 2002.
Bob Dylan in the Radford University gymnasium in 1992.
The Roots at Ziggy's in Winston-Salem in 1996.
Lucky muther!Seen over three hundred. Among the best...
Stones in Raleigh in 1964
Hendrix in Raleigh in 1968 or 69.
Peter Frampton, J Geils, Humble Pie, 1974 in Greensboro
Springsteen in 1974 in DC
August Jam at Charlotte Motor Speedway in August 1974 featuring the Allman Brothers, ELP, Marshall Tucker Band, Foghat and others
Springsteen in Kenan on the Rising tour
Hendrix opening for the Monkees in Winston-Salem in 1967
I agree. I'll go see a band in a coliseum or stadium because that's usually the only thing the big name bands play in, but I love the smaller venues. My favorite place to see a concert is the house of blues in myrtle beach. The Masquerade in Atlanta is a good one too. It's a complete shit hole, but the atmosphere is great. I'm sure @TarHeelNation11 can back me up on that one.I like different venues. That plays a really big part in my concert experience. I don't even bother trying to go to a coliseum to see a band. That just seems so lame. The venue is a big deal to me.
I saw them in Zebulon on what must have been the same tour. Willie was great; Bob completely mailed it in and I was really bummed as a big fan of his work.Dylan and Willie together at the minor league ballpark in Charleston, SC in 2004.
