Will a W over VT be enough to get UNC into the NCAA if what follows are a loss to Dook and a los in the ACC Tournament before the Final?

A win against Virginia Tech is going to be meaningless. A loss to Virginia Tech will be devastating.

Going to have to do a lot of SEC scoreboard watching.

Arkansas is currently losing by 30 at SEC bottom feeder South Carolina.
Oklahoma is losing by about 10 early at Ole Miss.

Also really rooting for Memphis, New Mexico, St. Mary's, Gonzaga to win their conference tournaments. Those 3 conferences are open for bid stealers.

Easiest route for me is if Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Georgia lose all their remaining games when they're not playing one another IMO. Then no bid stealers in the conference tournament.

I think yes if the Bracketologists and NET rankings are anything to go by. The bubble isn't that great this year and I'm sure the selection committee would love to put us in for the revenue.

I think we can still get in depending on our ACC Tournament play, but of course other bubble teams will determine that as well.

We're playing our best ball of the season right now--if we can keep that up good things may yet happen.

I think even though the offense is probably different in great trending ways, I don't think it would be enough if we do lose to dook.

Assuming a win @ VT, it would give UNC a 6-game win streak.

But in that, there is only 1 Q2 win (FSU), 4 Q3 wins, and a Q4 win (Miami). Probably a part of your job history that wouldn't be effective to put on your resumé.

I hate to be a party pooper but, perhaps the voice of reason might be useful here as well. Yes, we are on a five-game winning streak, but we have to look at who those five teams are.

I wholeheartedly agree that our offense, rebounding, and sometimes defense, looks much better than it did when we were playing higher quality teams.

Are any committee member going to be impressed that we beat Miami, NC State and Virginia tech while making their decision on whether or not we should be in the NCAA tournament? I would imagine we need, at minimum, a very good showing, if not a victory versus dook, followed by an impressive run in the ACC tournament to even pretend we might be a bubble team.

I would love nothing more than to be in the NCAA tournament. Make some noise with a mini run but we have made our bed, and we must fight our way out of it.

They need to beat Duke. They don't have the luxury to depend on the randomness of the ACC Tournament. What if Duke and Clemson lose unexpectedly early in the ACC Tournament and UNC never gets a chance to play them (assuming UNC doesn't win the ACC Tournament)?

As you mentioned, they made their bed. They need to sleep. In a typical season, I would be slightly concerned about the game before Duke but this is a different kind of season. UNC's has played NCAA Tournament games after the Clemson game. So the focus will be there against Virginia Tech.

And the Duke game will ultimately tell us if they're worthy of being an NCAA Tournament team. It's really hard to say anything definitive beating up on the bottom of the conference. However, to their credit, good teams take care of bad teams easily. And at least UNC has done that the last few games. They weren't doing that in the beginning of the season. So no question they're making progress. The question is will it be enough? They need to beat Duke for it to be enough IMO.

The Miami game doesn't tell us anything, lol. Miami is a historically bad P5 defensive team. They literally rank along with Chicago State, USC Upstate, and Central Arkansas amongst the worst defensive teams in the country. That was a glorified practice for them. Hopefully they were able to work on some things for Duke in a live game.

You spelled dook wrong (4 times)🤣

No -- beating VT, and getting a opening game win in the ACC tourney may work, but as someone posted it would help if a number of other schools on the bubble lose a game or two down the stretch.

i’m all for positives and lord knows we need them this season. however, is nobody considering how bad the 5 teams we’ve beaten are???!

"A win against Virginia Tech is going to be meaningless. A loss to Virginia Tech will be devastating." < Both statements cannot be true at the same time. By no definition can a win be meaningless if a loss is devastating. A win against VT rather than meaningless is critical because it forces our only path to be winning the ACCT if we lose that game. Win that game vs VT, a loss to duke in our final regular season game, which unfortunately I do expect, I think will force us to not lose to any team other than duke or Clemson in the ACCT, which I think may be getting to the semi final game of the ACCT, doable with how we have been playing last few games but far from easy.

Good point. Beating the bottom dwellers is not a good indicator. However, it's quite obvious the line up changes, focus and shooting have been better as of late. I guess this week will reveal a little more. In my opinion, this is a tournament team even though their body of work is suspect.

Obviously rooting for other bubble teams to lose and discussing the narrow pathways to making the ncaa tournament is not ideal and never where you want to see Carolina basketball be at.

dook is the traditional spelling that goes way back. when my family first moved to chapel hill in 1966 it was spelled dook. probably even before that.
For sure in the 50's, and likely before that.
