We have 6 offers to kids in the 2018 class. No bigs.

SFs Hamilton and Williamson may be able to slide to PF, depending on whose measurements you believe (and whether they are done growing). But no offers to true PFs or Cs at this point.

We don't know what returning bigs we'll have on the roster because we don't know who we'll get in the 2017 class and we don't know if Tony or guys like PJ or Bamba or Knox (if we sign any of them) will be OAD.

Worst case scenario, we have only Luke returning as a senior. Best case scenario, we have maybe 4 bigs including a couple of starter-quality guys.

Although the needs are murky at this point, we still need to be extending offers to bigs. Don't want to be late to the party if it turns out we need 3 bigs in the 2018 class.

With that in mind, which bigs would you like to see us going after?

Looking at 247, I see that 10 of the top 20 are PFs or Cs. Only 6 more in the rest of the top 50. Only 1 of those 16 is listed as a center. Just 10 more in the rest of the top 100. So a somewhat front-loaded class for bigs.

Offer all 10, lol. I think the lack of offers so far indicates Roy thinking we are good enough to wait for things to shake out this year.

Worst case/best case scenario = TB, Stokes (Brooks), Huffman, and Maye as bigs-not too shabby!
Add in a little Williamson and a 6'7-9" Leaky and I feel just fine!

Realistic IMO for this 2017 class and what I would love to see: Jaylek, PLatek, Huffman, Stokes, and finish it off with Mr PJ Washington ! Then if we can add Leaky, Moses Brown, and Zion from 2018, I would be estatic, I like Hamilton a lot as well but not sure if we will have room for 4.

David McCormack from Virginia has been getting familiar with UNC. He's taking 2 trips so far and will be visiting again on the 23rd. Maryland and Kansas are both on him pretty hard.

6'10 285 lb, Ranked as a consensus top 30. I imagine he'll be getting an offer when new ones start going out.

Does it do any good to offer top bigs early? Most of them will play the process out since they're much more likely to be OAD than guards and wings. Not offering doesn't mean we aren't on them so I don't care that Roy make a bunch of offers just to make us feel better.

Unfortunately, for some their egos can't take it if they are not offered early. For others it is OK to be there visiting them and keeping in touch. Kids are becoming more and more fragile with their self images!

Sometimes, not offering =/= not recruiting.

I do think there are cases that coaches (Roy especially) may make indications to players that they will get an offer in the future, but are simply holding off for the time being. Possibly due to recruiting period restrictions, or uncertainty with the roster. I imagine some of this is going on now. Perhaps things have changed, but I would think recruits would prefer to have active communication with recruits vs. just dropped an offer to sit on, as some of our rival fanbases have done.

There's usually a point where offers start getting delivered in packs. And I believe one of those times is usually around the summer of the beginning of their Senior Season IIRC. Still a ways to go until we reach that point for 2018.

And as stated, you also have the cases of players who get crushed egos from not getting immediate offers, which I'd say it's better for them to stay away from UNC in the first place.

I wish we still had the luxury to say no thanks to kids with fragile egos or self esteem issues, but lately the pickings are getting slim.

Roy has a knack for finding these type kids, but I'm sure he is getting frustrated with how hard it has gotten!
