OK, there's gonna be a lot of questions. I want to earn my PhD in American Studies by the time this thing is over.

Give me some time to collect myself.

I can go ahead and tell you that the answer to all of your questions is going to be "America is f*cking awesome."

Alright, given that I've already been posting on here for way too long today, it can't hurt to stick around for the rest of the day either.

I'll go with the stuff I can think of right now... and just throw it out there. Pick and choose, if you're at all bothered. Let the sparks fly.
____________

- What state do you live in, and what do you like/dislike about living there?

- What's the biggest misconception about America that people from other countries hold?

- For those of you who've been to UNC (or any other school), how are the athletes treated on a normal day? Do they have to stop to take pictures every two minutes?

- What are three things you would tell someone to do, were they to visit North Carolina?

- Favourite sporting moment you've been around for in Tar Heel history?

-I'm currently in Atlanta, GA. I like the fact that it has pretty much everything you need and want entertainment wise in the city. Traffic is HORRIBLE!

-Not sure about the misconception. I do know that there are some people who think that America is greedy because of our economic systems. The US is actually the most charitable nation in the world dollar wise (that's pound for you).

-I didn't go to UNC, but the athletes at my school were treated like everyone else for the most part. There might have been a few people who got exited to meet them on the first day of class, but that's about it.

-See the Outer Banks, check out Chapel Hill and get laid.

-Favorite moment is a tough one. I guess I would have to say Roy's first title.

North Carolina. The best university, the best sports teams, the most beautiful girls, the best weather. People who make my home state a laughingstock.

- What's the biggest misconception about America that people from other countries hold?
Not sure. If you tell me some of the perceptions I'll give my opinion on which ones are off-base.

- For those of you who've been to UNC (or any other school), how are the athletes treated on a normal day? Do they have to stop to take pictures every two minutes?
The athletes definitely have elevated status, but I think they mostly get to live out their lives, except maybe on game days. Most students try to give them their space. There are always exception. I knew a guy that met Mahktar Ndiaye and told him, and I quote, "You are very big. You are very black. You are a very big, black man." He nodded and everybody went on their way. But it was admittedly very awkward.

- What are three things you would tell someone to do, were they to visit North Carolina?
Visit the mountains, visit the beach, go sailing.

- Favorite (fify) sporting moment you've been around for in Tar Heel history?
Tough call. I had a blast watching our game against Blake Griffin's Sooners in 2009 from a bar in Venice. My wife and I were there with our best friends and it was the only game I got to see out of that tournament run, due to a month-long Europe trip. There have been bigger games, but my personal experience of that one was unforgettable. There's a great picture of us by the TV at the end with sad-face Blake on the screen.

I enjoyed these lines very much. Great stuff all round so far.

By the way, don't feel obligated to answer all of the questions. They're just there to fire up some subjects that can be rambled on.

Like the lovely women of America.

My general sentiment exactly.

- What state do you live in, and what do you like/dislike about living there?

Massachusetts. Likes: the pro sports teams, the fact that its on the ocean, the history of it, the summers.
Dislikes: The general political opinions (mostly liberals of the most annoying variety here), the winters, the high cost of living, distance from Chapel Hill.

- What's the biggest misconception about America that people from other countries hold?

I can't really think of one of the top of my head - if this was multiple choice I could definitely pick out the generalization/stereotype that was most bogus though. If I had to pick something - its that not everyone is fat.

- For those of you who've been to UNC (or any other school), how are the athletes treated on a normal day? Do they have to stop to take pictures every two minutes?
No, I think most students are respectful of the athletes and don't paparazzi them too often. Although, when you see them walking through campus I think all the students gawk and watch them go about their day. When they're seen talking to girls a common response is "jersey chasers....."

Interesting story was on my third day on campus I shotgunned a beer with Ty Lawson in frat court (Wayne Ellington was there as well but didn't partake in the shotgunning). We were both underage at the time - he has since gone on to rack up way more DUI's than me though.

- What are three things you would tell someone to do, were they to visit North Carolina?

- Eat a lot. Both at the traditional southern food places, as well as the fast food restaurants (they have a lot of fast food places that aren't prevalent elsewhere in the country)
- Visit Chapel Hill for a basketball and/or football game
- Go to the beaches (OBX)

- Favourite sporting moment you've been around for in Tar Heel history?

I was a junior in 2009 when we won the national championship. Stormed Franklin street and jumped over the fires that were being set there - had some first experiences with some certain elicit substances - got laid (I think?) - just an all around debaucherous night.

I live in Georgia (in the city of Atlanta, ugh) and I have almost my entire life except for two years in Florida, a year in Athens (that's Athens, Georgia, not Greece) and then my three years in Chapel Hill while I attended UNC. Though I live in Georgia, I consider myself well-versed in the state of North Carolina. Both of my parents were born and raised there, and my family has been in the state of North Carolina for 200+ years, when we fled from you uppity Brits for a better life in America. I spend about a month of each year in North Carolina between vacations, going to UNC football games, and visiting family and friends.

As far as what I like about Georgia....I love the weather because cold weather is NOT for me. I LOVE the girls....there's nothing better than a Georgia Peach. Georgia girls > Carolina girls, sorry not sorry. What I dislike about Georgia is Atlanta. It's too congested, there's too much traffic, and too much of certain other things/places/ideas/etc that I'm not going to post on a message board.

When I was at UNC, students revered the athletes but usually did so from afar. You'd see Harrison Barnes in line at lunch and people would whisper to each other "that's Harrison Barnes" but not actually talk to him.

I'm younger than some of the other folks on here (I'm 26) but the best Tar Heel sport moment I've ever witnessed in person (i.e. I was at the game) was the Gio Bernard punt return with :12 left to beat NC State and snap a 4-game losing streak to the Wolfpups. That's the loudest I've ever heard Kenan Stadium and it was pandemonium. People hugging strangers, people falling into each other in celebration, even old people jumping up and down like wild. Good times. I know as of now you're more of a basketball guy than a football guy (I think?), but the below video is definitely worth the watch. This was Larry Fedora's first season as head coach. The players were surprised with the chrome helmets before the game....thus their crazy reactions.

@Hark_The_Sound_2010 that's an epic experience.

2009 was my freshman year..............at friggin UGA. I watched the national championship game from a couch in my fraternity house. I got to Carolina the next season........in time to see us have the Larry Drew year and not even make the friggin tournament. Joy.

- What state do you live in, and what do you like/dislike about living there?
I live in NC, have been here my whole life. There are a lot of things I like about living here, including the fact it has beaches and mountains, good food, good looking women, etc. but there are things that drive me crazy about it too, I guess that's true in most places though. Grass is always greener, as they say. Despite that, I do enjoy living here.

- What's the biggest misconception about America that people from other countries hold?

I'm with some of the others, if I saw a list, I could point some out that are bogus. Only thing that comes to mind is the fat thing, not all of us are fat, but a good number are.

- For those of you who've been to UNC (or any other school), how are the athletes treated on a normal day? Do they have to stop to take pictures every two minutes?

I felt like they were treated pretty normally in my experience. I had some classes with a few of them, and while you knew "oh, he's on the basketball team," they were still treated pretty normal. Here's one story (of a few) about having a class with an athlete. I had a small class with Larry Drew the day he left the team, and the news hadn't broken yet, so when we got to class everyone was like "Where's Larry?" About halfway through the class, the news broke, someone was on Twitter and said "This says Larry quit the team and is transferring." So, needless to say, we didn't see him in that class anymore.

- What are three things you would tell someone to do, were they to visit North Carolina?

Eat barbecue in the eastern part of the state, visit Wrightsville Beach, visit Chapel Hill.

- Favourite sporting moment you've been around for in Tar Heel history?

My freshman year at UNC was the 2009 title season, so it's a tossup between watching that title game in the Smith Center and the subsequent storming of Franklin or the Duke game in the Smith Center that year. That was my first ever UNC-Duke game, and it was everything I wanted it to be. Just totally surreal. I've been to a lot of great games before that and since, but that was a special day.

-North Carolina- about 40 minutes from Chapel Hill. Most dislike the lack of restaurants in my town.

-That we are all cowboys

-Nobody really pays much attention to them on campus. They probably get stared at but not any more than the thousands of hot UNC chicks walking around.

- Go to Chapel Hill, go drive the Blue Ridge Parkway and get out and walk a trail longer than 0.5 miles (or backpack part of the AT), go to Outer Banks for lighthouse tours and tour all of them and enjoy the rest of it along the way. Either that or go sail @ Southport or Oriental.

- When my lacrosse team played UNC's lacrosse team when UNC was ranked #1 in the country.

Nice @TarHeelNation11.

I love hearing about these states that we never hear anything about over here. If it's not New York, Las Vegas or Los Angeles, it's pretty much nothing. (I'm pretty fascinated by the south though, admittedly - can't wait to make it over there one day).

I actually started watching the Football team before Basketball, which is an odd way to do it on Tar Heel terms as I've later come to know... but yeah, I still watch all of the FB games. Really excited for the new season - can't wait to see Trubisky in his first year as starter.

Ya, that was my senior year. Such a depressing follow up from the previous year. Can't complain too much since they did win it all the year before - but man, finally getting dook tickets for the first time and knowing walking into the risers that we were gonna lose was just awful.

I can kind of relate to that. Dean retired, then Vince and Antawn went pro just before I started at Carolina, so I was there during the Guthridge/Lang/Forte years. My senior year at UNC was the 8-20 season.

I think I've got you beat. My only time getting Duke tickets was my senior year as well (wasn't in the risers but it was decent seats in Phase 2) and guess what game that was? The Austin f***ing Rivers game.

Was born in Charlotte, NC and lived there until I was 12. Moved to Lynchburg, VA. Spent some time in Greensboro, NC and Charleston, SC but now back in VA.

Biggest misconception about the US is that we don't give a f*ck about anywhere else in the world. While that's accurate for me personally, I'd say nationwide, that's not the case.

If you travel to NC, I recommend the mountains over the beach. NC mountains are glorious - Pisgah National Forest. South Carolina has better beaches (sorry, not sorry).

I was at that one, my senior game as well. I went to all four when I was a student and had risers for all four. We went 2-2 in those games. I've been to two since graduating, and we've gone 1-1 in those. We have won the odd numbered games, and lost the even numbered. Since the next one I go to would be odd numbered, I might be due to watch one in person
