I'm sure that's how he wanted to go out. Losing on a buzzer beater to a team he had just accused of "buying" their players, in a city he repeatedly insulted.

During the interview he several times said he gave gave hints about retiring several times last Saturday during his post game but only one local sportswriter picked up his intentions. He has one year left on his current contract but he also clearly indicated it was up to the school…

Being reported as “Boeheim will not return”. They aren’t using the term “retire”.

It reads so awkwardly (I haven’t watched it) - wonder if he was being nudged into retiring behind the scenes and that drove him to speak it this way

This was cringy. The guy will always be the Rodney Dangerfield of College Basketball. I’m going to miss seeing Boeheim on the sidelines. Things won’t be the same. Do they go with Gerry McNamara or somebody else?

Yeah wth was that
I'm not saying this is true of all east coasters, New Yorkers, but to me he just always had that sort of smug, arrogant, "I'm way above having to talk to you morons in the media or anyone who isn't from around here. I don't owe you the time of day". And he would act even worse if his team got lit up or if there was something questionable about a decision he made, how his team played, or any sort of controversy around his program (remember - there was plenty - lots of his wins got erased, nullified for a few years of play due to NCAA violations).
Of course this way he acts is exactly the sort of behavior that the East Coast elite, smug media types like Kornheiser, etc love.

So he's got a ton of wins because he's been coaching for 47 years. OK. Props for that. The 47 years is impressive, but to have one NCAA title in all that time (with a great all-time player in Carmello) doesn't exactly put him in the top 5 coaches of all time. It's pretty easy to name 10 men's college basketball coaches (past and current) I'd put ahead of him.
