Not sure, Coach. I think he was coming no matter what, but that is a very good question. There's a better than average chance we lose TB... hope not, but...

This team has legit Back to Back capability if JB and TB both come back, with or without Knox. Knox would make them the clear favorite. It would benefit both Tony and the team if he come s back. Think about these lineups

Joel
Theo
Knox
Luke
Tony

Seventh
Jalek
Kenny
Brooks
Manley/Huffman

BRob and Platek

This is true... and even if Tony succumbs to the bad advice and leaves, as long as JB comes back? Duck!

Tar Heel!!
Thanks Deana!

Great job here by the staff to let him make his own decision on his own time. Glad to have him on board!

Glad for Garrison also, finally got to celebrate a commitment.
Yes, indeed. I think his heart had been telling him UNC all along and he just got caught up in a family feud between his parents and their desires. Good for them to let him follow his heart in the end.

I was just commenting on some potential lineups yesterday morning. My gut says we get Tony and Joel back but lose Knox to the dark side. TBH, ever since Brooks reopened his recruitment, I've been saying that I think he's a more important recruit than Knox.

While it may not matter to Bradley, Berry or Knox, it's also possible to imagine that signing Brooks boosts the chances of keeping or getting those guys.

Pretty straight-forward, really.

Berry gets another target to pass to who looks to be more advanced than Huff or Stirling. Yeah, that could be wrong or could change, but 3 bigs increases the chances that Berry will have good targets more of the game - maybe all game long. And getting his assist ratio up is almost certainly one of the things the pros want to see. So Berry is presumably happy to see this addition.

Bradley sees stronger front line backup. Meaning a little less pressure on him and an improved chance he's returning to a team that could do well in the tournament.

Knox is more reassured that he won't be called upon to play PF. If that's as big a factor in his decision as we have been led to believe, that could be a tipping point for him. He's seen that Justin is leaving. So he knows the starting spot is available. I believe I've read that he's played with or against Jalek, so he knows what to expect there, and if Berry returns he can be sure of good PG play. And now the concern about being forced to play PF is greatly diminished.

Gary I have a source who is credible that says Bradley is in all likely hood coming back. Same source that said unc coaches wanted to take the pressure off Brooks. And that Knox is ours. Have you heard anything to cooborate what my source says about Bradley?
I have not, and I'm skeptical only because I'm very aware of the disingenuous voices that have been in the Bradleys' ears. That being said, there are also a few good-guys down there trying to counter the bad noise. Obviously I hope your source is right.

OK, so now we have 2 6'10" 230lb big men and a 6'9" 235lb and all 3 are freshmen! I definitly feel better about our front court, I think Huff and Brooks can help us next season, maybe Manly as well but I think his curve is a bit longer than the later 2. And if Tony does come back, have said many times I expect him to, we actually become bigger than we were this past season.

Heel Yeah!

I don't think Brooks coming says anything about Tony. Brooks can share minutes at the 4 with Luke, and at the very least Tony will be gone after next year. Can't see Brooks worrying about Tony's presence.

Lotta size, Dave. Lotta size. IF Tony comes back it takes a lotta pressure off the these youmg colts. They can get some minutes and see who develops.

My thought all along has been that Brooks is the most ready to contribute of the trio. He is a prototype of a Roy traditional 4-man, can run the floor and already has a variety of ways of getting the ball in the basket (which is unusual for a HS Big)... plus he brings the added advantage of being a pretty sporty shot-blocker.

Shouldn't we know something like today on berry and Bradley? The deadline to declare is tomorrow.

An early report would be nice. But we'll know for sure by Monday.

I'll be delighted if they don't put their names in. But as I've said several times, I think they should enter their names, go to the combine, get the feedback. And I think Theo or anyone else who wants to should do the same.

Yeah, that will stretch out our anxiety - and might impact our chances with Knox - but I think that makes sense for the kids.

It is. Some thought the athletic dept might make an announcement yesterday since Roy is on the road. So I guess we'll hear over the weekend. I presume all we can expect is who is going to put their names in for the draft evaluation process. Unless a player has already decided to hire an agent, then we just wait...

Here's a question: do kids who test the waters get more attention from the pros and/or the press the next year if they return?

Theo is a good example. We think he's great. But thanks to injuries and playing behind other guys, his visibility seems low. I see one mock that has him drafted very late in the 2nd round next year.

So imagine Theo enters his name, goes to the functions, gets measured, gets tested, gets scrutinized by pro scouts, and gets their advice what to work on. Seems to me that those pros might see something they like and be more likely to check on his progress next year.

Would that scrutiny (assuming he works on those things and does well next year, as we all expect) bump him a lot higher in the draft? Whereas if he has a good year, but never called any attention to himself, maybe he doesn't move up in the draft to the same degree.

Well... the staff did meet with a grad transfer candidate Big earlier this week. Now, maybe that was a back-up plan for Brooks, or... maybe it's an indicator they don't think Tony returns. Hard to say.

I think if Tony leaves bringing in a grad transfer totally makes sense, even with Brooks. We'd be back down to 11 scholarship players, so there'd be plenty of room. Plus there would be playing time at the 5 and a lack of veteran leadership in the frontcourt other than Luke.

Yep, and the scholly is only used up for one season.

I don't understand. Are you saying if he's hired an agent we won't hear anything this weekend? That doesn't make sense wouldn't he have to declare regardless of he's hiring one or not?

No, read it again... that info would come from the player when/if it happens, which could come immediately or any time during the evaluation period. Once a player declares, we wait to see if he withdraws his name or stays in --- generally if a player is staying in the draft they hire an agent once that decision is made.
