Bowe Bergdahl

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this @heelbent and anyone else who served that reads this thread.

They are not very nice thoughts.

As all of you know I am not the smartest man...but from what I can gather this guy had no business being in the US Army. His fellow soldiers considered him substandard and a liability, and hindsight seems to bear that out.

He cost Americans their lives and their health during the search for him and only Heaven knows how many people have died as a result of the last president's decision to release those Gitmo detainees to secure his return.

I'm disgusted, plain and simple.

I know this is a dumb question at this point of the story, but has it ever come out exactly why he left his post? Was he deserting? Joining the Taliban? Sleep Walking? I never heard.

What's the general feeling from your military friends about him getting off? I'm assuming most of them feel the same as you.

Yeah I'm curious as to how you desert your post in the middle of Afghanistan...

Says he wanted to travel to a larger base to report a critical problem in the chain of command. Have no idea what that really means though.

I haven't spoken to a single person yet that had anything good to say about it. Somebody screwed up. If the guy is as nuts as the defense is making him out to be I'm glad I wasn't depending on him to have my 6 and I'm mad as hell anyone was. He never should have been there. If he's not there's a lot of bodies behind what at the very least is dereliction of duty. You don't just walk off.

So he just took a vehicle (?) and took off towards another base (supposedly) and then was captured along the way?
