I think our chances of getting to play this bowl game are quickly fading.
  • Today NCDHHS reported a Test Positivity Rate of 21.9% in the state, the highest seen during the entire pandemic.
  • NCSU's bowl game with UCLA was cancelled 3 1/2 hours before kickoff.
  • 5 bowl games have now been cancelled.
It feels very much like that night where the basketball team lost to Syracuse, and everything shut down the following day. Not good.

I was at that game. One of the worst UNC basketball experiences I ever had.

Both teams were supposed to go through the testing protocols today. If there isn't some large scale outbreak within one of the teams, I'd like to think the game will go ahead as scheduled. But who knows

Cancelling games over omicron is ridiculous.

Moo had their game cancelled a few hours before kickoff. I wouldn't count on it being played until it actually starts. Wouldn't totally rule out the NCAA stopping it during the game either.

What is the financial impact of a bowl game such as the Mayo? What are teams/conferences losing with the cancellations? Not sure what the payouts are but I have to think this year really kills the ACC- no team in the playoffs and 4 cancellations to date.

Mayo bowl payout is about $4.8 million. Not sure if that's total or per team. I would think that's the total, so we would get about $2,4 million. The link below has all of the payouts.
