Here is my wishful thinking. After this embarrassing loss of Boston to Knicks, Brad Steven final gives up and returns to college ranks. UNC makes a pitch for him and hires him at all cost replacing HD. At least it will fix the coaching issues we have. I know NIL issues are there, but that is there for every colleges.

We don’t have any NIL issues…

Yikes, embarrassing loss, finally gives up. They were about to be down 3 -1, and lost Tatum, won game 5, blown out in game 6, bowed out in 2nd round after a 2 seed regular season. This after winning a World Championship just last season, after playing in the Eastern Conference Finals the year before that. Give up, and return to college? I would think if Stevens somehow focused on the game 6 blowout loss, that would be missing the forest because of the tree. He and they have been extremely successful. I'm confused about what he would be giving up on?

i respect the imagination.

Realistically being the head coach of UNC is probably not a better job than being President of Basketball Ops for the Celtics. If he ever wants to get back into coaching, he can just fire his HC and take that role too.

2021 was the only chance, however slim, we'd ever have of getting Brad Stevens out of Boston. We blew it on a designated successor.

There is no other choice. In this era of NIL and transfer madness, Brad Stevens is the only coach I’d even dare mention in the same breath as Dean Smith. He’s the kind of mind, presence, and leader that could actually elevate UNC without compromising what made it sacred in the first place.

I’d never worry with Stevens at the helm—unlike now, where every game feels like a roll of the dice with Hubert. And it’s not just Hubert. There’s not a single other name out there that doesn’t make me anxious about the future of this program.

Brad Stevens is the one. And that’s exactly why it’ll never happen. Total pipe dream.
