Bulletin Board material...

When you are the last team in, you really shouldn't need any outside "bulletin board" material. You know you were the last invite.

The way I see it, there were 8 teams for 4 spots, splitting hairs for who "deserved" the spot or didn't. No complaint either way for any of them. And whoever was left out could easily make a case for why the last team in did not "deserve" it.

The only thing people are talking about is all of the quad one losses but none of the other metrics that are used in the final assessment of who does and does not get in..
Our Net ranking was the best of the last 4 in and first 4 out, which likely ultimately got us in.

But just like those on here saying national media focusing too much on Q1 and ignoring things like Net, those same people on here are downplaying the hell of Q1 and acting like it’s preposterous to even talk about it.

Acting like Q1 isn’t a worthwhile stat… it literally shows how you stack up against S16 type teams, which I thought was the standard here. The stat absolutely has merit! If it were all reversed and we were 12-1 and got a 2 seed rather than a 1 seed, those same people would be going… but but but our Q1 record!

I haven’t researched it, but it could be the worst Q1 winning percentage for an NCAAT team in history. If indeed it is, it’s absolutely warranted in national conversations.

I think the anti-media bias is conjured up solely by the fanbase. Thinking that refs, commentators, media, NCAA all hate us is crazy.

Kentucky fans all think this too. Alabama football fans probably think this too. Aside from opposing fans, no one hates your program as much you think they do… that’s because they don’t care about your program as much as you think they do.

Replace us with Kentucky or Kansas in this team #68 scenario and the media would all be going just as crazy today. Any premier program in as #68 is gonna draw national ire. If West Virginia had gotten in over us, nobody would be saying anything today. Everybody would be happy that one of the big boys got the short end of the stick. It’s the scenario… not UNC specific.

But I know the “they hate us cuz they ain’t us” crowd feeds off of this manufactured hatred.
Apparently reading and video watching is a lost skill.

I generally agree with most of your posts & think you bring quality to the board, but I could not disagree more with this take. There is absolutely an anti UNC bias, & as far as the refereeing goes, it may not be everybody but it is certainly a select few. If you don’t agree, go back & watch the calls Michael Stephens makes in the 2016 National Championship game.
Amen to that, and the 2 makeup calls Mike Eades had to give us to counter his in 17.

...and also for anybody here who wants to smugly (and blindly) deny the palpable anti-UNC bias out there, here's a sampler for ya... enjoy:

Honestly, I didn't think they were in after Saturday either if I'm being completely transparent. That opinion was based on the Q1 record though. But thankfully the committee didn't use just Q1 record to make the call. And it's ridiculous that all these morons and talking heads looking for clicks are focusing solely on Q1 records. UNC had a better NET ranking as well as superior predictive metrics to the other bubble teams. And the effing mayor of WV calling a press conference and claiming that there was some kind of fraud is just laughable. Hope all this provides good motivation for the team.

… and there it is. My first time being insulted by the exalted one. And I’m extra appreciative that it was short and well crafted, yet cloaked in snark and murkiness with a hint of cryptic flair. Cue the Barry Manilow… “Looks like we’ve made it.”

First, I’d like to share a fun fact about Gary… when he was in middle school, his teacher gave him an assignment to list the world’s smartest people. He received an A-plus for turning in a blank page with only his name at the top.

If by not reading or watching that gaggle of media you posted to begin the thread is what you were referring to, here are my thoughts…
  1. I have no interest in hearing anything Stephen A or Shannon Sharpe have to say on any topic. I’m surprised a man of your erudition pays them any mind.
  2. One of your testimonials is from an NC St grad with 140 followers
  3. Another is from a UK homer account
  4. Another is some rando from Milwaukee who hates the Badgers way too much to give a flying hoot about UNC.
  5. Posting tweets and videos of people who didn’t agree with the committee doesn’t correlate to some national stick it to UNC at all costs campaign that everyone is in on.
  6. And not sure how opinions of rivals confirm bias either? How bizarre would it be if somebody used a quote from you about Alabama to support a media bias against the Tide?
Now, I’m going to back out of 44 and settle into 20. Can you please explain to me in your usual unbiased opinion, why Auburn deserved the overall #1 seed over Duke when:

  1. Duke was #1 in the Net and Auburn was #2 (as I’ve learned from the UNC bid justification, Net is important).
  2. Auburn thus far has a losing record in March (2-3)
  3. Duke beat Auburn in head to head
  4. Of course, I expect you won’t use Auburn’s Q1 victories in your argument (again, from the UNC bid justification, Q1 is NOT important)
Thanks in advance. And feel free to hurl a few more insults while you’re at it. Consider me Luca Brasi… it’s an honor and a privilege to be verbally pummeled by the Don of the coaching mafia himself. But all I ask
Is just, please, don’t blow the assist.

Wow. You went to all that trouble to make a total ass of yourself --- well OK, in your case it's apparently not that hard --- but congrats nonetheless.

Q: "...do you feel like you have someting to prove?"
Seth: "Absolutely, absolutely. I think we've all kinda felt the hate... disagreement from outside the Carolna family..."
RJ: "Yeah, a hundred percent... I mean, for us to be considered an 11 team, and you have people asking 'do you consider yourself a tournament team?', like... that hurts my soul, because I know we are..."

So... all we can do now is hope that they translate that aggrievement to the court...

I don’t think that all of this is just anti UNC biases. I mean on the surface it’s not a good look that the Heels were the last team in and Bubba was the chair of the committee. It also doesn’t look good that a couple of the teams had favorable metrics and were left at home.

Every year there are head scratchers and snubs, but when one of them is a blue blood, it’s going to get extra attention. Would have been the same if it were Duke, KU, UK, etc.

End of the day this is why you don’t want to be on the bubble….You leave your fate up to a committee….So for WVU they did it to themselves and losing early to Colorado in the Big 12 tournament didn’t help….The Buffs were something like 14-19…

Play better and win more games and it doesn’t matter…

Agreed. It gives all the sports yelling shows something to yell about.

If UNC were left out, some of those same yellers would be yelling about how Carolina got snubbed.

I admit it’s kinda hard to argue why we shouldn’t be in but the fact is we are and they can just SUCK IT!!

It’s not just the talking heads, the governor of West Virginia wants us investigated by their AG. Fortunately first take is laughing at West Virginia for it right now. “Sit your ass down and find something better to do” - Stephen A

Sounds like Florida State being mad about the football playoffs. It’s a waste of time and resources for their state.

Reality is they are having a meltdown over the 68th team! Does West-byGod-Virginia think they would even advance past the first game when they lost to *who* in their first game of the Big12 tourney? WHEN THEY KNEW THEIR ENTIRE SEASON WAS ON THE LINE!

Oh yeah, they lost to...

Colorado who was the last place team in the Big12
Colorado who was 3-17 in the Big12
Colorado who was 14-20 overall
Colorado who was #86 in the NET
Colorado who was #81 in KenPom

This Quad thing to me is total BS, you just are not going to be able to convince me that beating the #75 ranked team on their floor is equal to beating a top 5 team. You will never be able to convince me that it should not matter how well a team is playing at the end of the regular season, that early season games are in some way equal to late season play is. IN my view to try to justify this nonsense tells me you really don't want the best teams in the NCAAT. This NCAAT field actually has a team with a LOSING regular season record at 16-17, yet they won their who the heck cares tourney and get the auto invite, a team that would not qualify for the NIT had they not won their conference tourney.

This so called system everyone seems to love penalizes teams that elect to play a challenging schedule and rewards those that decide to play a weak sister schedule. I hate duke, hate them with a passion but duke has very clearly been the best team in the NCAA this season, with OR without Cooper Flag and yet this so called system some how does not have them as the over all #1 and I am supposed to in some way believe this makes any sense at all?

If you care at all to have the best teams in the country all with a shot at winning a natty then all you need to do is put a end to the winner of a conference tourney getting the auto bid so we don't have teams with 16-17 regular season records in the NCAAT. AND, determine who the best teams are based on beating the point spread , weighted heavier on the last half of the season than the first half. How you are playing late season has to be more important than how you played in November...
