Can Hubert Rebuild in the Portal for 2025-26?

Meanwhile we have two 4-star back court commits and are still theoretically in the running for a scrawny 5-star PF (Caleb Wilson).
So here's a very optimistic lineup for next season:

Cormac was very solid, if not a star. Dawson disappointed, but mainly because he left. He was pretty good. Pete disappointed, too, but mainly because of fit and coaching, imo.
All 3 were starter quality.
It may also be worth pointing out that Dawson's worst year - out of 3 schools in 5 years - was his UNC year.

After we beat Boston College on January 25 this year, we could be on a 7-game winning streak. Or, more realistically a 6-1 run and a 14-7 record.
We might want to hold off until then before breaking out the pitchforks.
But even if this team and Hubert take care of business, I'm still worried that we may be in the position of depending on the portal way too much for next year. Will we have the appeal and the money to fill out a good team if we lose a bunch of players?

I think we'll need more than that but otherwise agree with your assessment. Unless I counted wrong you're only showing 9-10 guys. That leaves little room for mistakes or injuries.

Agree, however I believe a good hire could speed up the recovery process.
IIRC, Louisville's new coach had to replace everybody on that squad.
Hubert did something similar - albeit not on that drastic scale - a couple of years ago, when he invited several players to leave. So he's familiar with rebuilding.
The big question is whether Hubert will still be able to pull in the portal this year if we don't get a lot better.
Give us another run deep into the NCAA tourney and he should do fine. Assuming, of course, we have the money.
But if we see no post-season or an early departure, I fear the best prospects won't want to take a chance on dubious coaching just for money and a Carolina blue uniform.
Let's put it this way, if Hubert and another coach are going after the same player, you can be pretty sure the other coach will point out the erratic development here - unless Hubert takes away that argument by turning this team into a contender.

Is it 100% that Hubert will be our coach when the portal allows UNC to add players? He would not be able to add any help to the team if he is no longer the coach. I think the will he be our coach for next season may be nearing 50% odds if things don't turn around strong, hard, and right now! That seat is hotter than most realize
