Carolina's Reality: Mediocrity at its Doorstep

I was just wondering what tier the program has been over the last 5 years. Probably not top 30. I wonder how much pressure the football powers now on the scene would put toward basketball which has to play a role in the brand’s overall image. The parallels to the football program over the same time are pretty striking, with the obvious difference being that Mack had accomplishments to point to. There is no reason to expect that plugging a few roster holes will change the underlying issues.

im sure the article noted it but UNC’s been a mediocre program for the better part of 8 seasons now. I’m including the Luke Maye jr/sr teams. They had good reg seasons but they weren’t true title contenders IMO. The last 6 specifically, they’ve been just any other program. Imagine if Baylor beat UNC in OT that year.

Buck stops with the head coach.

Been subpar of The Last 5 Years think about if it wasn't for the transfer portal getting those players in to help the team if we had to rely on Hubert developing players and not had the luxury of the transfer portal think about how bad we could have possibly been scary thought

then you’re implicating roy…i’m fine with that, but just saying…this has been an issue for almost a decade.

there’s no planet right now i’d live on saying you’re wrong, especially from what i see on other teams…grown ass men are playing on rosters around the country, forget just the sec.

We seem to have more issues than we realize. Who would agree to continue along the line of thinking all is ok?
Even someone as dumb as I realize something is very wrong in Chapel Hill. Roy Williams isn’t without fault in this mess either. I really believed Carolina had the upper hand against dook once the rat retired. Seems I was way off, sadly.

Well Roy picked Hubert and that’s a huge reason potentially why UNC is where they’re at right now. So of course Roy bears some responsibility.

And Roy showed cracks during his final years. He admitted that he wasn’t a good coach his final year. He also started Garrison Brooks over Day’ron Sharpe or Walker Kessler

Christian Keeling and Justin Pierce were complete transfer flops. In fairness he got unlucky with Cole Anthony’s injury.

This is a program failure. Hubert gets the blame right now and that’s just the reality. But this is like a traditionally great company that’s teetering and picking an unqualified CEO. Maybe you get lucky but there’s no rational reason to think it turns out to be the right decision.

At least that’s how I view it.

Where is Roy’s UNC coaching tree right now? It’s only Wes Miller. And Miller was never on Roy’s bench.

K’s tree is currently: Chris Collins and Northwestern, Jeff Capel at Pitt, Hurley at Arizona State, Tommy Amaker at Harvard, Quinn Snyeder in the NBA.

Ironically Duke went the same route as UNC for the successor. But K’s track record at developing head coaches is there. It may not be super impressive but it’s at least there.

Hindsight is 20/20 of course but I don’t think that’s nothing.
