Catholic vs. Protestant

Praise the lowered.

That's like a modern-day Job story! Thanks for sharing that, seriously. And, congratulations on the final outcome. We have God in us all the time. No Religion Necessary!

P.S. I think my favorite part was that your grandfather was a Grand Wizard and started a Southern Baptist Church. Did he do that as some sort of atonement for having been in the Klan? Looking back over the story... it seems like it was the happiest part, besides maybe "when I married."

He didnt see the two as mutually exclusive and continued his role in the klan while pastoring. (This is rural ala in the sixties). As kind and giving as u could ever meet. Devoted his life to helping others. Died of a heart attack helping a poor family with roof repair after a storm. But he truly believed blacks were a sub human species.

being quasi-agnostic/spiritual/believer in a higher power but religion can gfi-type person.

I'm the same type of person - fortunately I didn't have to go through all the sexual harassment of my loved ones to get there.

I'm a staunch believer in a higher power, but you'll never catch me in a Church outside of one I've been dragged to (for a Baptism, wedding, funeral, etc.). Fortunately it seems all the weddings going on these days have started to move away from Churches which is a step in the right direction. I guess for people who need to be shown how to connect with God, Churches and religions can have some use. But in my opinion, organized religions are at best a waste of time, and they can be much worse than that sometimes.

It presents an unfortunate dilemma. Because my great grandfather was kind of the same way minus the klan membership. As kind hearted and generous a man you could find, but he did not have any love for blacks. How then would a higher power judge that?

The "higher power" doesn't judge anything. People do all the judging, if you notice. That's what I notice, anyway. In my experience, the "higher power" is just observing. Now, granted, my experience is pretty detached from any specific religion's priorities. The choice to filter your understanding of God through a religion almost automatically humanizes God, and limits the capacities of "God." Just the WORD "God" almost instantly evokes a religious association in our minds.
