Coby went absolutely scorch mode for the Bulls tonight, hitting 7 three pointers in the 4th quarter against the Knicks, with Roy and Eric Hoots in the stands watching. He actually outscored the Knick 23-17 in the 4th quarter in route to 27 total points. His effort also set an NBA rookie as the first rookie to knock down 7 three pointers in a game.

And the best part, as Adam Lucas tweeted, was how he talked about the Carolina Family being a REAL THING in the post game interview.

This is the coolest thing on this board in a long time, IMO. I saw the video on Twitter, and was coming here to mention it. Thanks MJ for posting it.

Like so many here, I love the kids that stay for four years where you get to know them really well, and they build long term team relationships, and are parts of lots of great moments (and challenging, growth ones too).... the basketball program needs those kinds of kids as the core for sure.

.....but it is hard to overstate how big it is / was having Coby come to Chapel Hill for a year, and how he exploded from where he was ranked as a recruit (top 20-40? I don't recall) to being the best all around player for the Heels last year. A legit bona fide OAD, and outperforming Nas.....

and now seems on track for at least all rookie first team in the NBA. And talking up UNC family, Coach Roy, the whole UNC experience and UNC Way. He's done a TON to lure other candidates to Chapel Hill I think - in part with Cole Anthony, Bacot, and several of the studs coming in next year. I love it.

Gotta say it...

Imagine a backcourt of Coby & Cole?

Best advertisement for recruiting we could have right there. Carolina Family.

That interview can do more for recruiting than 50 in home visits could do. We are officially Point Guard University once again.

It's funny because you're starting to see kids call out "fake brotherhoods" and such...no one will ever deny that family atmosphere from Carolina.

With very few exceptions, their feelings for UNC seem to grow stronger after they leave. That school down the road seems to have that excitement about the school peak during recruiting than fade as time goes on.

Careful. Bulls are gonna try to hire Roy as a full time Coby cheerleader.

Also there are two more locker interviews on the twitter feed after the post game interview.

Right! Great post. For instance, your last line....all hype all the time for guys like Zion - and he was great against decent competition for many of the games he played. But in the end, against us and when playing for an NCAA title, he failed. Period. Then people may rarely if ever connect Zion with Dook ever again. Sad...... I mean funny and deserved.

And now where is he? Do we see interviews of him touting "The Brotherhood"? Or do you ever hear past Dookies go out of their way to praise the Rat and The Dook Family, Dook Way? Think Kyrie Irving, Okafor, Winslow, Ingram, etc. I don't know. I don't follow NBA - but it doesn't seem like people tie the Dookies back to the Dook program or describe it as a foundation for a lifetime relationship ("bigger / outside of just basketball" like Coby said). It sucks to be them, its awesome to be Carolina Family.

One of the best stories of the early season. Not a mention of it anywhere on ESPN.

hahah. On front page of CNN but not ESPN. Adorable. No mention of the interaction between Coby and Roy unfortunately.

How do they not cover it. College coach comes to watch struggling rookie who then sets team and NBA records.

His long ball range that started to show itself mid season last year takes him to another level. Great kid, great ambassador for my favorite college and pro teams.

Coach Davis filled in for Coach Williams on his radio show last night in what was a great hour of Tar Heel talk from Huuu. He really is one of my favorite Heels, I met him a few years back and he really is one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

He said that reason Coach flew to Chicago was because Coby was struggling some and wanted to go and give him some support and encouragement. You can’t make that stuff up, its organic, genuine and engrained in the program from Coach Smith to Coach Gut to Coach Williams. We really are blessed to have these men and the great players they have brought to Carolina.

Another thing I really enjoyed about what Coby had to say was that their relationship went back to HS, as we know Coach was there for Coby when he needed him the most during a tough time in his life. I think you all know from losing people close to you that you will always remember those who were there for you in tough times and be forever thankful. Roy took Coby under his wing the day he committed and as we have seen they have built such a great relationship where Coach will always be there for him. As Coby said the relationship they have is way more than basketball and Coby words and the exchange between the two yesterday showed exactly that.

He's going off tonight in the 1st half again. 16 points, highlighted on 4-6 from downtown. Ended up with 19 on 5-8 from downtown, 7-11 overall at the half.

I don't understand how he isn't starting.
Most teams have very detailed support plans for the extra young investments. Coby has been up and down like many youngsters. He gets starters minutes when on a run, more rest when struggling with time and guidance to adjust to the grind. Vets like Satorosky are there as a bridge and example. Make no mistake, he is a priority for them. His motor is non stop, Russ Westbrook type attack mode all the time. He is demanding minutes with his game for sure though, but they are aware of his body and development as well.

A couple comparisons the team has seen him as is in the Jamal Crawford/Lou Williams type career role. Lou was a straight out of high school guy too. Scorers, not point, scorers, with in between size.

Well put dtodd. I believe Satoransky was a long shot pick up for them and won't pan out as intended. He's an awfully expensive bridge.
