Assuming no cable or satellite:
  • How do I watch ALL Carolina football, basketball and other games that are usually televised?
  • How do I watch NFL?
  • How do I watch PGA/Ryder Cup?
  • How do I watch EPL?
I think that's about it as far as live sports viewing. And is there any way to record this stuff with only an internet connection?

Playstation Vue. For $44.99 /mo, you'll get:

- NBC Sports Network (EPL)
- ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FS1, FS2 (Carolina Football, Bball, some baseball)
- Golf Channel
- your local RSN for Fox, so for you probably Fox Sports Carolinas and Fox Sports Southeast? (Carolina Football and BBall again)
- supplement Vue with an HD cable antenna (I paid $15 for mine at Radio Shaq) -- will let you get CBS, ABC, Fox, NBC (football, golf, et al)

https://www.playstation.com/en-us/network/vue/channels/?dl=core

As for recording it, I'm not positive. Playstation Vue does let you record stuff and it's really easy, but it doesn't last forever.

What's the point? Satellite is only about $80 and it comes with a DVR.

Oh I mean you don't have to sell me on satellite. I love DirecTV. I'm just giving you an alternative option.

To be clear, Vue does have a DVR built-in. I've just found that shows sometimes disappear. Sports won't.

Have had Direct TV for 10 years and like it, except when it rains, snows, ice, the wind blows hard or a storm is in the distance. Other than that it's great.

I have used DirectTV in the past and they are fine other than when you have to call them for some reason.

I know and I apologize. Just trying to see if there is any new technology that saves me from having to pay for satellite.

Now go quack yourself.
I've used Playstation Vue for a year and I've seen some weirdo named @Raising Heel use SlingTV on multiple occasions. I still am of the opinion that Vue will give you exactly what you're looking for. You don't even need a Playstation to get the service. Any ROKU, laptop hook-up with HDMI, et al will work. And you can use it in multiple TVs in the house.

Here's the only thing that Sling has that Vue doesn't: You can take your Sling device anywhere. Your PS Vue devices will only work inside the residence you list when you subscribe. But, it kinda offsets itself because you can use your PS Vue log-in to log in to the myriad apps that exist to get mobile content such as ESPN app, Fox Sports app, NBC Sports app, et al.

I use it every day, actually. :p

Yup. Huge selling point for me. Time Warner Spectrum Cable did the same thing with their app, EXCEPT for live sporting events, which sucked. With SlingTV, anything I watch at home I can watch on a phone, pad, laptop, or another television if it has an HDMI input. This rocked when I went on vacation.

Can you DVR with the Sling?

We have been looking into the Amazon Firestick or the Roku. I don't know much about them but they say once you "jailbreak" the Firestick it's pretty good.

My $0.02

Recently moved and thought about cutting the cord. Called Cox for Internet only as I was planning to keep DIRECTV and possibly go Vue. They pushed me to at least consider them. So I pressed and got 4 DVR boxes, 300 mps, and home security for $211 with taxes and fees for 24 months. I have sports pack and all movie channels.

I'm paying roughly $100 less per month for all 3 services than I did for just DIRECTV. And I have to admit, the microphone remote function is the bees knees.
