The big stories around this game ought to be the programs and the head coaches. UNC has been Major Conference forever, while JMU began as a women's teacher['s college and did not have any football until 1972, which was nearly a quarter of a century after Choo Choo's UNC career ended. The Dukes originally played Home games at the harrisonburg High field. JMU is a once D2 school that became a great 1AA/FCS program and recently moved up to 1A/FBS. In fact this is the first year that JMU is eligible to make a bowl. That's how new JMU is to being in a G5.
Ancient Mack is already in the HOF and is one of the greatest recruiter HCs of all time. Bob Chesney is inhisn 1st year at JMU and previously coached at non-scholarship 1AA, D2 and D3. So Chesney is brand spanking new to D1A/FBS.
If old man Mack were worth even half his salary and another year, UNC would beat JMU by at least 21.
And I should note that while Mack beat Charlotte in Chapel Hill 38-20, Chesney beat Charlotte in Charlotte 30-7. It was Chesney's very first game as a D1 coach.
