THI has confirmed through sources very close to the situation that junior defensive end Dajuan Drennon should be back for the fourth game of the season, which is at home versus Pittsburgh.
Drennon broke his foot in early April and in June was given 100 percent clearance to resume full activities, but he re-injured the foot and has been increasing his rehabbing as he nears a return.
Two weeks ago, we reported he had an important doctor’s appointment where he would get some finality. Our understanding was that he’d miss the first three games. But last week when his workouts had accelerated to intense work on a stairmaster, it appeared possible that Drnnon, who started as a freshman and sophomore, could return sooner.
However, even though he is now running sprints at about 80 percent, Drennon’s time table hasn’t changed.
The Tar Heels open the season Saturday versus Georgia before heading to Illinois the second week of the season and hosting James Madison in the home opener, a week before the Panthers visit.
