I totally get what you’re saying but if the rumors are true that HD is the one that held out on making these staffing changes and that the Carolina girls team has had a GM for two years then that lays even more blame at HD’s feet than previously thought. I saw elsewhere that it was HD, not Bubba, who was resistant to a reorg of the staff. No idea if that is true or not.I watched an eye opening pod cast last night with David Glenn and a couple others talking about what is wrong with UNC. They contrasted UNC basketball to duke, not so much the players but the staffing advantage duke has for their program as opposed to UNC. Their "front office" staff dwarfs ours, they have a systematic approach to everything, it allows their coaches to do what they were hired to do, coach players. They have staff that evaluates talents, handles the $$$, actually hands Scheyer a short list of kids that fit his criteria so Schyer does not have to plow thru 25-30 candidates he can work thru a short list of 4 or 5. It is the same kind of professional approach UNC is now taking with Belichick.
WE all know something is and has been badly broke, so many as of late have jumped on it all being Hubert's fault without looking at the broader picture, been guilty of some of that myself. But I am beginning to see a broader picture and this is beginning to make sense. I am beginning to see why we whiffed in the portal so badly, beginning to see why we have been missing out on so many high school recruits that we should not have, it is more than just money to the players and it is more than Hubert not knowing enough about basketball to coach his team better. It isn't what we have that is the problem, it is WHY we don't have what we need and that goes well beyond just Hubert.
What it comes down to is that UNC has been trying to still use the old armature college basketball model, the old way that was always successful but we are no longer in that world, the old way no longer works in this new day of big time college athletics. We saw that play out on the court sat night, we saw duke setting up the chess board for that kind of win while we were playing checkers and scratching our heads, screaming FIRE them all BURN it DOWN! . It is time to move past destruction and move more to construction, LEAD, FOLLOW, OR GET OUT OF THE WAY!
I don't know who was behind it being passed on initially. I would HOPE that it would have been more Bubba's call than a guy like Hubert that was so new to being a head coach, for sure understand needing Hubert's buy in. Have to as well realize how much has changed since Hubert was hired, it is like every year there have been radical changes. I could see Hubert taking sch a suggestion considering when it came up as a suggestion that he may need "training wheels" on his bike and he not taking that well.I totally get what you’re saying but if the rumors are true that HD is the one that held out on making these staffing changes and that the Carolina girls team has had a GM for two years then that lays even more blame at HD’s feet than previously thought. very sad, but true....now much closer to the professional sports model than it is to the old armature college basketball model. WE can yearn for yesterday but that is now gone...
I hate saying that jimmy but it is what it is, to far down the road now to look back, it is now about moving forward while paying homage to the past. It for me is simply, is what we have now acceptable, if not then something has to be changed in a huge way.very sad, but true.
