Dow 20,000

I spent 4 years driving to-and-from UNCW and I had to go through Raleigh at all times of the day. I've also had to work in Washington DC on a regular basis. The DC traffic is a complete NIGHTMARE in comparison. Raleigh is a breeze...anyone who complains, I invite them to drive I-66 East from Gainesville, VA down into the District one morning (pick a time..."rush hour" is all hours).

I don't get how anyone could live near D.C.

I don't get how anyone could live near D.C.

Just a few examples:

1. First time I had to work in DC (was 5 blocks from the White House), I was advised to leave by 2:30 so I could get outside the beltway (other side of I-95) by 4pm (when HOV rules kick in)...the troopers sit on every single ramp to pull people over as soon as it hits 4pm. Once I realized that - having driven for 1.5 hours - I wasn't going to make it, I ducked off to take Route 50, which runs parallel to I-66. I got home, just above Charlottesville at the time, by 8:30pm. With no traffic, this commute would have taken less than 2 hours (max).

2. Thinking I could outsmart the system, the next time I stopped at Vienna and took the Metro into the District. But this time, on the way to get back onto the Metro to head home...some idiot had jumped in front of the train and committed suicide. To say this was chaos is an understatement. I grabbed a cab and had to take that for 40 miles to get back to Vienna...again, in DC rush hour traffic.

3. Every single time I had to be in DC to work, I would have to leave my house at 3:30am to get there by 8:00.

How anyone lives in that city is beyond me. I got rid of that job quickly.

Anyone complaining about Raleigh traffic has no clue.
