Numbers you ask Duke is at 24.5 million to Carolina’s 3 million. I have always been good in math and even Steven Wonder can see that a ton of 5 star players can be promised big time money with such a large war chest.

Yes blame the difference of NIL on Coach Davis or better yet President Trump. Please now understand what the truth is before going overboard with unwarranted criticism

Good information. Has made a difference I’m sure. The question for us is if we are on an equal playing field as far as NIL dollars as our competitors, is Hubert Davis in the top tier of coaches that North Carolina deserves? Talent alone will only go so far. I’m concerned that not only has our product on the court has been sub par, but the coaching has been sub par as well. I am not witnessing “The Carolina Way” in our play. I support our coaches and hope they turn it around, but I’m very skeptical of our coaching philosophy- which I have not even identified under Hubert. We have to be very careful that we not let apathy take over. We are the Blue Blood of college basketball! Period. Any season we don’t reach the sweet 16 is a disappointment! I expect regular trips to the final four and more natty’s! Is Hubert Davis the kind of leader to take us where we deserve with an equal playing field in regards to NIL? We shall see- I’m not convinced. As always, Go Heels!!

Hubert’s use of the players on the roster is a fireable offense in and of itself.

Is the 24 M what dook is paying or the sum of what the players are earning? The reason I ask is that Flagg's gatorade deal is 4M. Does dook get credit for that being part of their NIL $? I thought he worked that out independently of dook. I am not being argumentative just not clear on exactly how the NIL stuff is really done.

Where did this Dook number come from? As a private college, they don't have to release any payola information.

That is startling. I'd like to see where you got that info. Is there a link?

With that said, take the talent gap out of the equation and it's still easy to see that the current team has no direction. So I won't just chalk up our poor performance to low NIL numbers. We have at least "some" talent. We have more talent than Georgia Tech. We have more talent than Pitt. We have more talent than Boston College. What are those schools NIL numbers? We struggled with all 3.

NIL needs to be fixed. Hubert has done a terrible job coaching. Two things can be true at the same time.

NIL valuations and NIL collective funds being paid are totally separate. for example, Dooks best player has a deal with brands like New Balance and Gatorade that are worth more than any of our players combined. That’s more a reflection of his individual value, not what Dook itself is actually paying him. If we had better players, new balance and others would be paying them big sums as well.

It already was made public that UNC football only got $4 million for NIL this past season. So I don't think anyone should be surprised UNC basketball's NIL was less than $4 mill.

Bacot made most of his NIL money through actual endorsements, not direct payments from the Carolina NIL collective. RJ Davis makes most of his money through actual endorsements, not direct payments from the Carolina NIL collective.

The problem is, direct pay for play from NIL collectives is how programs recruit now. Recruits and transfers don't want to hear "you could make X amount of money over time wearing our jersey if you have a good agent that can get you endorsements." They just want a big check written to them before they ever put on the jersey. UNC's NIL funds were sparse last offseason and the impact of that was felt across multiple sports at UNC during '24-'25.

i guarantee Duke’s NIL isn’t 24 million…that’s more than the entire Ohio State football team (20 mil) which was the largest in college football this year

Yeah, thanks for the numbers ID, I as well would like to better understand where those numbers come from, are those numbers rock solid official fact or passed down conjecture.

But what if these numbers are right, if so they sure bring in to question of did UNC actually did have the NIL money to compete for the higher level talents. I just find it really hard to believe that Hubert, knowing full well that if we don't get a big time center from the last portal that this season was going to be a sheit show that could well cost him his job. Heard from Hubert as well as guys he recruited that Hubert was coming in wel behind the NIL number but selling that they would make up for that on the back end by the stage and spot light they will get as a UNC player. As we say in the south, that dog don't hunt...

Right HERE, right NOW, THIS^^^^^ is where the problem lies.

And it's all the more frustrating because it is EASILY fixable in the immediate future (as in TODAY), unlike the NIL stuff... and it's even MORE frustrating because Hubert (and pretty much everyone on our bench in white warmup suits) is capable of fixing it.

So lemme help...
Step 1: Remove heads from asses
Step 2: Coach what you were taught
Step 3: In case of doubt, return to Step 1...

Gary, there has to come a point in time where the powers that be say if it hasn’t happened yet… it’s never gonna happen.

I think a lot on here think that point has come and passed? Is there a point for you when you say, it’s never gonna happen?

Made public by who that UNC football NIL was 4 million…Mack Brown in his last press conference after he was fired…

This is BS….dook doesn’t have a NIL budget greater than tOSU in football just stop it…

Gary, I look at it as a serious talent evaluation failing, that makes the talent usage a symptom of the underlying problem. Solve the underlying problem the symptoms go away, that is problem solving 101. I say this because I know for a fact, Hubert Davis LOVES all things UNC, I can not imagine that Hubert would knowingly not use players properly knowing that it would hurt his teams, just can't believe he would do that. For me it is a situation of ignorance, not a slam toward the man, it simply says he does not know or does not understand. I think this, in addition to a real basic X&Os problem are the real underlying problems.

I would ask, how did Roy not know this?

Kool, my guess would be that NIL number may be combined with both duke football and basketball and may include all their sports teams. Duke has fewer non-revenue producing teams than UNC does and I strongly believe UNC spent more of football than duke may have. I know for darn sure fact that duke spent more on basketball than we did, spending double would not surprise me at all. Several of our key football players took really cheap deals compared to what they could have got in the portal. Duke's focus is on basketball but that model can not last, football pays the bills as well as drives the costs up.

Belichick taught UNC a lesson that every program in the country will have to learn at some point, that what you have been doing can no longer work in the day of NIL and the transfer portal. You have ot grow your main income producer, football or everything else falls apart. When you look at the financials posted yesterday, you see, to much load has been on UNC basketball to carry the load, that changed the day Belichick was hired. Doubt me, did we not just get the memo that UNC is now adding a GM for basketball? You now get what you pay for, the money for UNC basketball will be there when the next portal opens because the boosters now realize, the Rams now realize, the AD and the powers that UNC now realize, you get what you pay for and UNC wants great basketball as well as great football.

I can share this much, a collection of former UNC players began talking thru their group texts about what they could do to help this funding issue. When Belichick was hired it really lit a fire under former players and their numbers grew, it has almost rose to being considered a movement call for former players to step up for the program, even a certain some one with big $$$ recently met with a certain some one that loves Diet Cokes and his wife's nanna puddin.

What else, I know that guys that talk to Hubert, be in high school recruiting or portal, they all love him, he tends to get the guys we want when he is not $$$ limited.
